Engel Gives and Takes With Liviu

Ari Engel
Ari Engel

We picked up the start of this two-hand series as the dealer was spreading out a {5-Spades} {4-Spades} {7-Diamonds} flop. Ignat Liviu led out with 22,000, and Ari Engel raised to 57,500. Liviu called the raise, and he check-called another 77,000 after the {5-Clubs} turn. The river brought the {8-Clubs} and one more check from Liviu, and Engel wasn't slowing down now. He bet what looked like 115,500, but Liviu check-raised all in for 162,000 total. Engel had no choice but to call, and Liviu's {4-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} was plenty good enough to win the pot. Because it was an all-in, Engel was forced to table his {10-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} before spinning them into the muck.

Engel - 445,000
Liviu - 620,000

On the next hand, Engel opened to 12,000 from the cutoff, and Liviu three-bet to 40,000 from the small blind. Engel flatted, and off they went heads-up again. The flop came {4-Spades} {5-Clubs} {10-Diamonds}, and Engel called the 35,000-chip continuation bet. That slowed Liviu down, and he checked both the turn {Q-Clubs} and river {8-Diamonds}. Engel checked it back on the turn, but he decided a bet of 75,000 was in order after the river. Liviu tanked and folded.

Dag Dusted

From the button, Sharon Volfer raised to open the pot, and Dag Palovic three-bet shoved his middling stack into the middle in the small blind. Volfer made the call, and he was racing for the knockout.

Showdown
Volfer: {A-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}
Palovic: {9-Clubs} {9-Hearts}

The first four community cards were fine for Palovic, coming {3-Spades} {2-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {4-Clubs}. The {A-Hearts} on fifth street was a disaster, though, and Palovic has been sent up the river.

Levi Doubles Through Elder with Set of Fours

Nicolas Levi
Nicolas Levi

From middle position, Rupert Elder raised to 10,500. Nicolas Levi flatted on the button and Mike "Timex" McDonald called out of the big blind.

The three players took the {Q-Hearts}{4-Spades}{3-Spades} flop and McDonald was up first. He passed the action to Elder, the preflop raiser. Elder fired a continuation bet of 18,500 and Levi made the call. McDonald also came along and to the turn they went.

The {A-Clubs} landed on fourth street and McDonald checked to Elder once again. Elder, who won EPT San Remo in 2011, checked over to Levi and he bet 37,500. McDonald gave it up, but Elder wanted to see the river and made the call.

The river card was the {5-Clubs} and Elder checked. Levi moved all in for 130,000. Edler took about 30 seconds and then called. When he did, Levi tabled the {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} for a flopped set of fours. Edler mucked his hand and sent over the chips.

Sayonara, Sinel

Vojtech Ruzicka raised to 11,000 under the gun, and Anton Sinel three-bet shoved for 63,000 behind him. Sergey Baburin made a cold-call behind, though, and that scared Ruzicka out of the way. Sinel was at risk, and the cards were shown down:

Sinel: {A-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}
Baburin: {K-Clubs} {K-Hearts}

There was no funny stuff on the {3-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {10-Spades} {9-Diamonds} board, and Sinel's Big Slick could not catch up. He's out, and Baburin moves up to about 380,000 with the addition of those chips.

Palovic Doubles

Team PokerStars Pro Dag Palovic just doubled back. He reraised all in for 31,500 after Ari Engel opened. Engel called with the {A-Hearts}{9-Spades} and was ahead of Palovic's {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}.

The flop didn't do anything when the {J-Spades}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts} fell, but the turn {K-Clubs} and river {K-Spades} gave Palovic trips and won him the pot.

Boeree Races Out

Liv Boeree - out
Liv Boeree - out

Well, we've lost Liv Boeree.

Garri Tevosov raised to 11,000 in middle position, and Vitaly Lunkin three-bet to 27,000. That brought the action to the button where Boeree made a cold four-bet to 72,000 total. Tevesov went ahead and shoved all in with his monstrous stack, and Lunkin quickly folded out of the way. Boeree spent a few moments in the tank, though, but she eventually called it off to put herself at risk. As she likely surmised, she was in a coin flip for a top-five stack.

Showdown
Tevosov: {10-Clubs} {10-Diamonds}
Boeree: {A-Spades} {K-Clubs}

Unfortunately for the Team PokerStars Pro, she could not catch up. The board ran {6-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {3-Hearts}, and that's not going to get it done.

Boeree has been eliminated here on Day 3, and it looks like Tevosov has pipped his way to the million-chip mark with that pot. If not, he's awfully close.
