Round 2 to Wald

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Morgan Wald and Fatima Moreira de Melo just clashed again and this time is was a victory for the masculine gender.

Moreira de Melo raised from under-the-gun and Wald was the only caller, from late position. The {k-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} came and went with a Moreira de Melo c-bet bet (350) and a call. She fired again (725) on the {4-Clubs} turn and there was still no shaking off Wald.

The river came {4-Spades} and the Team PokerStars SportStar gave up as she check-folded to a 1,625 bet from her opponent.

Sarwer Represents a Flush

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Jeff Sarwer is seated over on Table 12 and has just added a few more chips to his starting stack.

On a flop reading {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} Sarwer checked from the big blind and Marco Fabbrini bet 525 from middle position. Annette Obrestad folded but Sarwer quickly called. The turn brought the {9-Hearts} into play and Sarwer once again checked. Fabbrini bet 525 for the second time in the hand and Sarwer flat-called once more.

The river was the {2-Hearts} and now Sarwer wasted no time in coming out betting, putting 2,300 worth of chips into play. This was too much for Fabbrini to pay and he folded, tapping the table as if to acknowledge a good hand as he did so.

Two Down Already

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

One of the traits of yesterday's play was how slowly we lost players. It took over two hours for out first elimination, but today has seen the back of two players already in the first level.

We don't have the specifics but Nima Ahary and Andret Vlasenko came and went within forty minutes. Good game gentleman. Luckily there are a number of side events on offer this week.

David Doesn't Foldy and Wins Pot

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Most of the attention over on Table 3 is focussed on John Eames, Chris Brammer and Kevin Stani but there are other players prepared to play some poker seated with them.

David Foldy opened with a bet of 250 from under the gun and his only customer was Morgan Wald in the cutoff seat. A flop of {6-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades} was checked by both players but the {6-Diamonds} on the turn was greeted by a bet of 525 from Foldy and a call from Wald. The dealer put the {2-Clubs} out on the river and Foldy checked then called Wald's 1,050 bet.

Wald: {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}
Foldy: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

Foldy wins the pot.

Defending Champ Kevin Stani Picks up a Pot

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Mr Stani - the defending champ
Mr Stani - the defending champ

The action folded around to Virginijus Lapenas on the button and he made a raise to 225. Defending Champion Kevin Stani was seated in the small blind and he pumped the price up to 850 with the three-bet. The big blind moved out of the way and Lapenas made the call. Two to the flop and it came down {a-Spades} {a-Hearts} {3-Diamonds}. Stani kept up the betting initiative but it was small - 300 to be exact and Lapenas called. The turn was the {3-Spades} and Stani bet 850 and Lapenas again called very quickly. The river was the {10-Clubs} and Stani, looking rather unpeturbed, bet 2,500 and Lapenas quickly folded.

Nichlas Mattson Nails a Straight

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

While staring at Annette Obrestad and thinking how cool she looked in her shades we noticed some action on table 22. It involved Vitalijs Zavorotnijs, who was under the gun, and Nichlas Mattson who had the position in the hand. The board was {5-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {k-Spades} {6-Clubs} and there was a pretty hefty pot to fight for. Zavorotnijs checked to Mattson and the Swede bet 2,800 and Latvian duly called. The final card was the {2-Diamonds} and Zavorotnijs check-called a 7,300 bet by Mattson. Mattson flipped over the {7-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} for the straight and Zavorotnijs angrily flung his cards unseen to the dealer. Mattson who has four six-figure live tournament scores to his name is looking good with 45,000 chips.

EPT Grand Final Champ Running Well

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

European Poker Tour Grand Final Champion Ivan Freitez is in the house and finds himself seated over on Table 1 in the far corner of the tournament area.

When he won the EPT Grand Final he will be the first to admit that he ran really well and that run-good looks to have followed him from Spain to Estonia. He called a bet from Jens Kyllonen on a board that read {J-Clubs}{4-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{6-Hearts} by the turn and it was heads up to the {10-Hearts} river.

Kyllonen then bet 1,800 only to see Freitez make it 6,200 to play. After around 10 seconds Kyllonen made the call but mucked when Freitez turned over {8-Spades}{7-Spades} for a straight.

Obrestad Trips Up Opponent On the Turn

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Annette Obrestad
Annette Obrestad

Annette Obrestad is up to 32,000 after getting two streets of value against Eugen Wagner with a well disguised holding.

She raised to 525 from the hijack after Wagner had limped in from early position. He called and check-called a 600 bet on the {8-Spades}{6-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop. The turn came {8-Clubs} and both players checked through to the {a-Spades} river. The diminutive Norwegian bet 1,600 and Wagner tank check-called but mucked upon seeing her {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}.
