Payman Pays Off Fedorov

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

Kayvan Payman has just paid off Vladimir Todorov over on Table 4.

Joining the action on a {6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{7-Hearts} flop, Payman bet 2,100 from middle position and Todorov, in the cuttoff, raised to 5,100. Payman sat completely still, his eyes fixated on his Russian opponent for close to a minute before he made the call. The dealer burned a card and brought the {4-Spades} into play on the turn. Neither player opted to bet, instead they tapped the table and checked.

The river was the {A-Spades} and Payman paused for 20 seconds before betting 8,700. Todorov double checked his cards and quickly called.

Payman: {9-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}
Todorov: {A-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}

Irene Baroni Cracks the Aces of Maksim Kolosov

Baroni Cracks the Aces of Kolosov

Anatoly Gurtovoy opened up the action with a raise of 1,400 from middle position. The day 1a chip leader Maksim Kolosov was seated a few places to his left and he made it 3,100 to play. A few folds later and Irene Baroni was seated in the small blind looking as awesome as ever with her mixture of Hello Kitty cans, orange rimmed spectacles and school girl pig-tails. Baroni reached for a stack of red 1k chips and plunged them over the line. The four-bet was 7,300 in total and Gurtovoy realised this was a dance made for two and folded his hand. Kolosov asked Baroni for a count and she just waved her hand over her stack as if to say "can't you count?". Kolosov made the call and we headed to a flop with over 15,000 in the middle.

Flop: {q-Clubs} {j-Clubs} {2-Diamonds}

Baroni's right hand was shaking a little as she made a bet of 8,100, Kolosov announced he was all-in and Baroni called like a flash of lightning and when the cards were turned over Kolosov was in deep trouble.

Baroni{j-Hearts} {j-Spades}
Kolosov{a-Diamonds} {a-Spades}

Turn: {10-Clubs}

River: {4-Diamonds}

Kolosov had to hand an additional 30,000 to Baroni.

Kolosov ~ 62,000
Baroni ~ 80,000

Outer Table Action

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

A smattering of hands from the outer tables.

  • Annette Obrestad opened to 1,200 from middle position and Mattias Lannermark three-bet from the button forcing the fold from the Norwegian.
  • Jeff Sarwer raised to 1,400 under the gun. "Do you raise every hand?" someone gestured. We are not sure if Michelle Perego picked up on this but he duly three-bet to 3,600 from the big blind. Sarwer made the call and they shared a flop of {q-Diamonds} {a-Hearts} {5-Clubs} and both players checked. The dealer gave us the {9-Hearts} turn and a 4,600 Perego bet forced the fold from Sarwer.
  • Natalia Nikitina raised to 1,500 from early position and received three callers. All four of them checked a flop of {2-Spades} {q-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} and David Sonelin won the pot on the turn when he bet 2,325 at the sight of the {6-Spades} and it was enough to take down the pot. Table 22 broke immediately after.
  • Johan Van Til moved his measly short stack over line in one of his many all-in shoves this morning. No-one took up the challenge and he won the blinds and antes.

We Spoke Too Soon

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

Earlier we mentioned that Table 12, our offiicial Table of Doom had become less scary after Ville Wahlbeck's elimination but it appears that we spoke too soon as he seat has been filled by no other than David Sonelin.

He has instantly made his presence felt after entering a preflop raising war with Israel's Yotam Bar-Yosef. A late position raise to 1,225 from Sonelin was three-bet to 3,550 by Bar-Yosef in the big blind. Sonelin then made it 7,225 to play only to see Bar-Yosef click it back and raise to 12,125. Sonelin removed the headphone from his left ear and announced he was all in. Bar-Yosef did not want to play for stacks and flicked his cards towards the deal,

Diamonds Are Not Forever!

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

Yesterday we wrote a post called The Silver Bling Bling Girl where we mentioned the amount of diamonds Annette Obrestad seemed to be wearing. Moments ago she was eliminated after her faithful diamonds let her down. We didn't see the hand but intrepid player/reporter Rupert Elder filled in the gaps for us.

There was a raise from Raigo Aasmaa and a cold call before Annette Obrestad jammed for around 15,000. Aasmaa re-jammed and the cold caller folded leaving a two way showdown.

Aasmaa{8-} {8-}
Obrestad{a-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}

The flop contained no hope for Obrestad and she was eliminated early on day 2.

Fatima's Stack is Too Thin

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Fatima Moreira de Melo
Fatima Moreira de Melo

Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo is down to 15,925 after leaving over half her stack in the middle before folding.

She was up against Finnish high-stakes cash game player Sami Kelopuro. He raised to 1,500 and called when she three-bet to 3,600 in position. The flop came {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and Kelopuro check-raised her 4,600 c-bet up to 11,800.

Her response was to raise to 22,000. Kelopuro then wasted little time in setting her in for the rest but she had to admit defeat and folded.

Kevin Stani
Kevin Stani

I saw Kevin Stani looking gloomy outside the tournament room and feared the worst. The reigning EPT Tallinn champion confirmed he was out. He got the last of his chips in with ace-king but couldn't win the race against his opponent's pocket jacks.
