Leaving On A Jet Plane Or Maybe Not

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Whilst ordering a delicious club sandwich during the break, I was approached by Kjartan Bergur Jonsson who joked that he hated poker but then told me that he has a flight booked to take him to Spain. His dilemma is that his plane actually leaves Tallinn in a little over two hours time!

New level; new fortunes

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Erlend Melsom
Erlend Melsom

Jeff Sarwer had a great last level as he doubled his stack over the course of a few hands. Hi stack has slid back to 315,000 though, this level.

He raised from the hijack and was only called Erlend Melsom in the next seat. The flop came {7-Spades}{2-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} and Sarwer saw his 33,000 c-bet raised up to 75,000 from Melsom. Call.

The turn fell as the {j-Spades} and Sawer checked to face 92,000 bet. He asked how much Melsom had back (226,000) and looked like he was going to call but he folded instead.

Aasmaa Accumulates Chips

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Local player Raigo Aasmaa has just picked up a pot after betting out of position on the river. Johan van Til opened the betting with a min-raise to 20,000 from under the gun and Aasmaa called in the big blind. Both players checked the {j-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} flop and again when the {k-Clubs} landed on the turn. There was no such passivity on the river though as Aasmaa lead out for 30,000 when the {10-Spades} made an appearance.

Van Til smirked, nodded and folded his hand.

Vainionkulma Takes On Kaiser

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Ronny Kasier may have an enormous chip lead but that did not deter Arvi Vainionkulma from taking him on over on Table 2.

Kaiser raised to 20,000 under the gun and when the action folded to Vainionkulma in the big blind, he paused for 30 seconds or so before three-betting to 47,000. Kaiser asked how many chips the Finn had in his stack and when he saw how many he had, he made the call.

The dealer put out the {4-Spades}{j-Spades}{k-Clubs} flop and both players checked. The {2-Hearts} on the turn was greeted by a bet of 35,000 from Vainionkulma and a call from Kaiser. The river was the {8-Hearts} and Vainionkulma bet 130,000, leaving himself 190,000 behind. Kaiser went into the tank for almost two minutes before mucking his hand.

Kjartan Bergur Jonsson eliminated in 17th place (€7,500)

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Jonsson's last beer in Tallinn
Jonsson's last beer in Tallinn

The tournament is down to two tables after the elimination of the lively Kjartan Bergur Jonsson.

Jonsson, who can now make his 5pm flight to Spain, moved all-in for 240,000 and was called by Lari Sihvo to create a heads-up showdown,

Jonsson: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}
Sihvo: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

The flop came {6-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and Jonsson knew how bad that was for his hand and vented his frustration by saying, "Damn you, boy!"

The {6-Clubs}{k-Spades} turn and river didn't help the Icelander and he checked his watch and probably jumped straight in a taxi.

A Trio of Hands From Level 20

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
  • Vojtech Ruzicka raised to 22,00 from under the gun, Ronny Kaiser three-bet to 55,000 on the button and Grzegorz Cichocki four-bet to 130,000 from the small blind. Ruzicka stared at Cichocki trying to get a read which is a little pointless as Cichocki looks like granite. Eventually he folded as did the chip leader.
  • Erlend Melsom made it 20,000 from the cut-off and Jani Sointula three-bet to 48,000 on the button. Melsom called and shared a flop of {5-Clubs} {3-Spades} {2-Spades} with the Finn. Melsom checked quickly but Sointula took a few minutes before moving all-in and Melsom snap-folded.
  • Arvi Vainionkulma raised to 20,000 from the cut-off and both Kaiser and Cichocki called in the blinds. The flop was {j-Clubs} {a-Spades} {7-Spades} and everyone checked. The turn was the {8-Hearts} and Kaiser led for 35,000. Cichocki folded and Vainionkulma made the call. The river brought us the {10-Clubs} and Kaiser checked to Vainionkulma who bet 55,000 and after a long think Kaiser folded.

Van Til Doubles Through Kelopuro

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Johan van Til's stack has slowly been eroding away all afternoon but he is back in business after doubling up through Sami Kelopuro in an explosive hand.

Erlend Melsom opened with a 20,000 bet from middle position and the action folded to Kelopuro in the small blind. He took a moment to stop eating his Caesar salad and raised to 56,000. Van Til was in the big blind and he waited for a count of 20 before announcing he was all in, for what turned out to be 219,000. Melsom quickly folded but Kelopuro snap-called.

Kelopuro: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
van Til: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}

The {q-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop hit both players hard but Kelopuro the hardest as it gifted him a set and it looked like van Til could have been on his way to the sidelines. But, and it's a big but, the turn was the {a-Spades} improving both players to a full house but van Til had the bigger boat of the two. The river was the {7-Hearts} and van Til doubled up and Kelopuro went back to eating his lunch.
