Levi Tax

We be hat-pimpin'
We be hat-pimpin'

Joining the action on the river of a {J-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{8-Clubs} board and Borge Dypvik fired out a bet of 55,000 only for Nicolas Levi to raise to 158,000. Dypvik looked a little surprised, "Pocket eights?" he inquired.

Counting out the chips which would leave him with just 80,000 if wrong, Dypvik finally gave into his inner curiousity and made the call. Levi flipped {K-Spades}{2-Spades} for trips and scooped the pot, boosting his own stack over the 600,000 mark.

Mostly Folding, and One Double Up

Play has ground to a halt the last while as the tournament is stuck at 30 still. There is an awful lot of folding going on. We did witness one double up though.

Ricardo Ibanez Rodriguez won a hand, jumped out of his chair and beat his chest as he tried to stake his claim as the alpha male of the table. He was up against chip leader Ilan Boujenah and the two had made it to the turn where the board read {q-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}. Boujenah led for 67,000 and Rodriguez took his time before calling, leaving himself with 175,000 behind.

The river came as the {7-Diamonds} and Boujenah announced all-in. The Spaniard snap called and tabled {a-Hearts}{9-Spades}. Boujenah mucked and starting swearing in French.

Ef Off

Efren Garcia had seen his 55,000 bet on an {8-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{8-Hearts} flop check-called by João Paulo Simão before both players checked the {J-Diamonds} turn. Simão asked for a count of his opponent's stack on the {5-Clubs} river and Garcia had about 270,000 back, Simão set his opponent all in and Garcia tanked for about two minutes before calling.

Simão said, "I have a full house," turning over {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}, Garcia mucked and left the table but the dealer (as is standard for all in showdowns on the EPT) turned over his cards, {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}. The Brazilian is chip leader once again.

Double Up? Bust? Chop?

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

The three options above all looked like the conclusion in a hand between Jordi Martinez and Nicolas Levi as it ebbed and flowed all the way to the river.

Martinez opened to 23,000 from the cut-off to face a three-bet to 53,000 from the Frenchman on the button. Martinez moved all-in and Levi snapped with {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}.

He was in bad shape as his Spanish opponent opened {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}. The flop came {8-Spades}{10-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} to see Levi snatch the lead. Martinez got out of his seat as he supporters on the rail made their feelings clear with groans. He was soon back in his seat though as the board ran out {6-Hearts}{9-Clubs} to out a straight on the boars for a chop.

Weisner Sent Off; Kuziv Wins and Loses

Melanie Weisner
Melanie Weisner

Melanie Weisner had been worked down around 200,000 when she got the rest of her chips in on a coin flip. It was her {A-Clubs} {K-Hearts} up against the {7-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} of Ivan Kuziv.

Things did not go well for the last lady standing as the board ran out {J-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} {4-Hearts}. Unable to catch up, she's no longer the last lady standing. We're out of ladies now, and Weisner has been forced to settle for the same 28th-place finish she tallied in Copenhagen. She's still looking for an EPT final table, but consistency is the mark of a good player, you know.

Kuziv's chips did not last long, either. On the very next hand, he found an {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs} of his own, but Fraser Macintyre found {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}. The board ran out blanks, and Kuziv was reduced to just a few lonely chips. Those left him when the big blind hit, and Kuziv has followed Weisner right out the door in 27th place.
