Pinho Pounds the Pavement

Henrique Pinho
Henrique Pinho

In late position, Henrique Pinho looked down at something decent and stuck his last 16,500 chips into the middle. He was called by both Petr Susen (button) and Kevin MacPhee (small blind) to create live action going to the flop.

Susen and MacPhee would check it all the way down as the board ran out {4-Hearts} {J-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {7-Spades} {Q-Hearts}. Pinho had flopped a good one with his {A-Spades} {J-Hearts}, but his hand was second-best by the river. MacPhee's {K-Spades} {Q-Spades} took the pot, Susen flashed his {9-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} as he mucked, and Pinho has been eliminated here with about 50 players remaining.

Etayo Doubles Up

Javier Etayo was almost up and out of his chair muttering to himself when the flop came {9-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} - the Spaniard was all in preflop with {A-Hearts}{K-Spades} against João Paulo Simão's {A-Diamonds}{9-Spades} but the {10-Clubs} and {J-Hearts} turn and river backdoored Etayo into a straight which he celebrated with a customary "Vamos!"

Kenny's Tournament Halted

Kenny Hallaert
Kenny Hallaert

Nicolas Levi was telling us that he needed to get his stack going in the right direction, and he's managed just that by eliminating Kenny Hallaert.

Levi opened to 12,500 from under the gun and called when the Belgian moved all-in for 121,000 from the button.

Levi: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Hallaert: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

The board ran {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{j-Diamonds}.

Not So Kool For Piazuelo

You looking at me?
You looking at me?

Bruno Lopes took down his first 5k event in January and he's positioning himself well here to have a shot at a second.

The cards were on their backs between himself and Javier Piazuelo when we reached the table.

Lopes: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Piazuelo: {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

The board ran a French rapper friendly {2-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{k-Diamonds}.

Weisner Suddenly Flush With Chips

Melanie Weisner
Melanie Weisner

Melanie Weisner flatted a raise from late position, and Alexander Petersen squeezed all in from the big blind. It was about 180,000 total, and that was enough to fold the initial raiser. But not Weisner. She made the call for a good chunk of her own stack, and she was well ahead and looking for the knockout.

Showdown
Weisner: {A-Hearts} {Q-Clubs}
Petersen: {A-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}

Weisner had to sweat it the whole way on the {7-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} board. In the end, though, her hand held strong, and that knockout moves her up all the way up to 550,000 and well above the chip average. She's running hot in the last couple levels today after nursing her short-to-middling stack through the bubble.

Misstep From Dion Leaves Him Short

Yann Dion is going to regret making a move against Efren Garcia in the blinds as it cost him two thirds of his stack.

The action folded to him in the small blind and he raised to 19,500. Garcia three-bet to 35,000 and snap called all-in when Dion four-bet jammed.

Dion: {8-Hearts}{6-Spades}
Garcia: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}

The board ran {a-Spades}{3-Clubs}{9-Spades}{a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} to hand the pot to the Spaniard.
