Boujenah Drags a Monster

Ilan Boujenah (on Day 1)
Ilan Boujenah (on Day 1)

Ilan Boujenah opened with a middle-position raise then four-bet João Paulo Simão. Simão flatted, and off they went to the flop in what would be the biggest pot of the tournament thus far.

The dealer spread out {J-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {6-Clubs}, and Simão called a continuation bet. Another bet came from Boujenah behind the {3-Diamonds} turn — 90,000 this time into a pot a couple times larger than that. "Raise," Simão announced. He stacked out 210,000 and slid it across the line, and Boujenah didn't waste too much time making the call.

The river came the {K-Spades}, and Boujenah reached for betting chips once again. He led right back out with 175,000 total, and Simão asked how much he was playing. That question didn't go over very well with Boujenah as he was in no mood to accommodate Simão's request. The dealer eventually helped the two come to a solution, and Simão began to stack up a raise in his bet staging area. After a few minutes, though, he decided to simply make the call to see what was what.

Boujenah proudly rolled over {A-Hearts} {A-Clubs}, and Simão's cards hit the muck. It took several pushes of both the dealer's arms to get all those chips over to Boujenah's corner, and he'll likely be spending a few minutes of the upcoming dinner break stacking up that whale of a pot. He's well over and a quarter million now and well clear of the pack.

Rodriguez Penalised

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Team PokerStars Pro Alex Kravchenko opened to 17,000 preflop and was called by Jean-Pierre Petroli on the button and Ricardo Ibanez Rodriguez in the big blind. The flop of {8-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} saw Rodriguez check and Kravchenko fire a bet of 26,000 but then Rodriguez folded out of turn and Petroli raised to 71,000.

Kravchenko tank-folded but complained to the tournament director over Rodriguez folding out of turn which gave Petroli the advantage of knowing the player behind him wasn't interested in the pot. Rodriguez receveived a two-hand penalty and had to miss out his small blind and button.

Lopes Carrying the Tune

Bruno Lopes
Bruno Lopes

Bruno Lopes opened to 17,000 from middle position, and Andries Swart three-bet to 42,000 from the small blind. Lopes put in the call, and off they went to the flop.

Swart bet 38,000 on the {5-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {J-Spades} and another 82,000 on the {2-Spades} turn. Lopes called both bets without much incident. The river {2-Clubs} put trips on board, and the action went check-check. Swart opened up his airball {A-Spades} {4-Spades} first, and Lopes' {4-Clubs} {4-Hearts} earned him the pot.

With it comes a chip boost to about 885,000, and the man known as "Kool Shen" looks to be up into second place overall behind Ilan Boujenah.
