EPT Madrid: 24 Players to 8

João Paulo Simão
João Paulo Simão

Welcome back to the PokerStars.com EPT Madrid. Yesterday was the longest day so far as we played for nearly 12 hours to get down to our remaining 24. The plan for today, the penultimate day of the tournament, is to play down to a final table of eight players.

João Paulo Simão became very popular in the press room yesterday due to his smiley demeanor and aggressive style of play. It's a good job we like him as he has way more chips than anyone else (1.973m) so is likely to hang around for a while yet.

We also have to mention a certain Mike McDonald. He has long been considered one of the best tournament players in the world. As he is "semi-retired" he doesn't play as many EPTs as most but he regularly makes it deep. He comes back 5th in chips and is well positioned to have another crack at winning a second EPT. In a way we hope it does it as then we can stop mentioning it every time a former champion goes deep in an EPT.

Play, as usual, is due to start at midday CET. Join us back here soon.
