Can a Finn Make an Italian Fold?

Judging purely on the result of this hand, the resounding answer would be no.

The flop was reading {Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{5-Spades} and PokerStars qualifier Aki Votkin had check-raised all in for 33,450 over the top of a 5,700 bet from Ignazio Calendrino. The latter tanked for a couple of minutes, "King-king? Ace-ace?" he inquired.

Finally Calendrino decided he couldn't relinquish his hand and made the call, turning over {Q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} for merely top two pair. Votkin looked sad, his {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} having been outflopped and the Finn was unable to spike a set on the {4-Diamonds} turn or {A-Spades} river. Calendrino has about 70,000 while Votkin is almost out.

Palumbo Continues To Climb

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Rocco Palumbo is up to 42,100 chips after a hand involving the unpredictable Giacomo Maisto.

It was Mihailis Morozovs who get the betting underway with a raise to 700 from the hijack seat. Next to act was Maisto and he made the call. The button folded but Palumbo squeezed from the big blind and made it 3,700 to play. Morozovs folded but Maisto, sporting a puzzled look on his face, called.

The dealer got busy putting out the {A-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop and when Palumbo checked Maisto checked behind. The turn brought the {Q-Clubs} into play and now Palumbo lead out with a bet of 4,000, which after 45 seconds thinking time Maisto called. The {10-Spades} was the river card and Palumbo went back into checking mode and Maisto checked behind.

Palumbo turned over {A-Spades}{K-Spades} for top pair and it was enough to scoop the pot as Maisto mucked his hand.

Palumbo reached the final table of San Remo earlier in this season and will be looking to go at least one better than his seventh place finish this time around.

Mitchell Getting Picked On?

Did he fold again? They say he's won the Irish Open too!
Did he fold again? They say he's won the Irish Open too!

Earlier on we noted a small hand where James Mitcell had a stab at a pot only to snap fold when an older gentleman bet on the river.

This man now has a name (Mauro Muratori) and is still pushing the British pro around. There was an under the gun limp and a call before Mitchell raised to 1,200 from late position. Muratori was sat in the big blind and four-bet to 2,700. All three players ran to the hills, or mountains as they are here.

Giampieri Bets Big, Wins Big

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

We joined the action on a board reading {2-Clubs}{7-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} with three active players and around 6,000 in the pot. Deniz Artur was the big blind and he had checked, Attilio Donato was the player who started under the gun and he had also checked but Massimo Giampieri, in the cutoff, had massively overbet to the tune of 11,100 chips.

Artur studied Giampieri for a while before calling and leaving himself just 11,500 chips behind. Donato also made the call and it was three-handed to the {A-Diamonds} river. Artur and Donato checked to Giampieri but this time when he bet, increasing the size to 18,300, both players got out of the way and Giampieri began re-stacking his chips.

Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda

Fabrizio Gonzalez and Eddie Playter had made it to the river where the board read {9-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

Playter led for 4,200 and only called when Gonzalez raised to 11,300. The Uruguayan tabled {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts} which beat his opponent's {3-Clubs}{3-Spades} for a smaller set.

We didn't see how the betting went before but Gonzalez was annoyed and said, "Wow, I shouldn't have checked the flop." Playter agreed and said the chips could have all gone in on an earlier street.

Pollin Count

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Claudio Pollin had fired out 1,625 on a {6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} flop before Siyu Sha raised to 3,500 from the button. Pollin called and then check-called another 6,625 on the {8-Spades} turn. The river was the {6-Diamonds} and Pollin checked a second time, Sha thought for a minute before moving all in for 18,375.

Pollin snap-called, Sha showed {5-Hearts}{5-Spades} for flopped quads and Pollin sighed, his {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds} now no good.

Sha has 65,000 and Pollin is crippled.

Garstick Aggression Wins The Hand

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

The action folded around to Gianluca Marucci in the late position and in the midst of of massage made it 700 to play. After one player folded Swiss Jonas Garstick three-bet to 1,900. This was enough to fold out the remaining active players but Marucci stuck along and made the call.

A flop that read {10-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{J-Spades} was greeted with a check from Marucci but Garstick kept his foot firmly pressed to the metal and neatly placed chips worth 2,800 in front of him. Marucci raised his eyebrows before flicking his cards back towards the dealer.
