Davide Andreoni Leads After Day 1a of EPT Campione

There were 178 players who started today and it was Davide Andreoni who has set the early pace at EPT Campione, finishing the day with 175,100. Andreoni had several tussles against countryman Dario Nittolo whom he sat next to but the former came out ahead by the end of the day with the overall chip lead.
Given the high number of Italians playing today, an often-used strategy would be to play fairly straight-forward to reduce the potential volatility but not so from Nick Yunis. The Chilean was seen playing almost every hand, his stack jumping around the place from 30,000 up to 100,000 and back down again. Winning significant pots against both Simon Persson and Rasmus Nielsen, Yunis finished on a high, second only to the aforementioned Andreoni with 169,200. They'll be joined there by former EPT champion Roberto Romanello (50,800), Marion Nedellec (51,200) and Rasmus Nielsen (41,000).
There were only four PokerStars Team Pros playing today and they suffered mixed results. Russian Alex Kravchenko (23,600) and the home hope, Luca Pagano (16,200) managed to make it through but both will be back on Wednesday with fairly short stacks and in need of an early double up.
Theo Jorgensen joined after the first couple of levels but he didn't last long. First he saw his jacks cracked by Anton Ionel's A-3 which hit trip threes on the flop. The Romanian then finished him off soon after with kings against king-jack. Usually very steady, Pierre Neuville also suffered a surprisingly early exit as did Mads Wissing and the player that Phil Hellmuth once labelled 'the worst player of all time' Cristian Dragomir.
Other players who didn't make it through the day included former EPT Prague runner-up Emiliano Bono, James Dempsey, former Irish Open champion James Mitchell, McLean Karr, Yordan Dimitrov and Casey Kastle. They'll have to enjoy the relaxing views and sights that Campione and nearby Lugano have, as well as the multitude of side events that the casino will be putting on over the next few days.
Although today was relatively quiet, we're expecting a much bigger field for tomorrow with many more Team Pros including: Arnaud Mattern, ElkY, Eugene Katchalov, Liv Boeree, Lex Veldhuis, Victor Ramdin, Vanessa Selbst, Marcin Horecki and Dario Minieri.

Markushevski Buys A Pot At The Death

From UTG+1 Giovanni Cantonati made it 1,400 to play and the player to his direct left, Ettore Ricci, made the call. The next four players folded but when the action reached Vadim Markushevski on the button and he popped it up to 5,100. Cantonati got out of the way but Ricci stuck along for the ride.

- Ricci checked over to his opponent and he quickly reached for chips and made a bet worth 6,400. Ricci had seen enough and he flicked his cards back to the dealer.

The tournament clock was stopped slightly later than usual as TD Teresa Nousiainen was distracted breaking a table. When it was stopped at 08.48 a seven was randomly drawn and that's what each table will play before they bag up for the night.
Andreoni Finds Aces In Another Clash With Nittolo

The action had reached the turn when we arrived at the the table that Davide Andreoni and Dario Nittolo call home. The board read 
and Nittolo checked, from the big blind, to Andreoni who was seated under the gun. Andreoni bet 1,700 and Nittolo quickly called. The fifth and final community card was the and Nittolo checked again. Andreoni increased his bet size dramatically, setting it at 5,200 but it did not put Nittolo off and he made the call.
Andreoni turned over a pair of black aces, that had flopped a set and Nittolo mucked.

Nittolo Gives Some Away, Gains More Back
Dario Nittolo tangled, and lost, with Claudio Rinaldi before he gained a lot more back the very next hand.
Rinaldi opened to 1,200 from under the gun to face a 2,900 three-bet from Nittolo in the next seat. He dealt with this by putting in a chunky four-bet to 8,200. Nittolo didn't look happy when he folded.
The very next hand he raised into Rinaldi's big blind for 1,300. The raise was called in two spots before William Iardazio squeezed all-in from the small blind for 21,900. Nittolo called with

Ionel Pays Off Quads
Earlier today we brought you the news that Roberto Romanello had made quad threes and was paid off handsomely, now Dario Nitollo has made four-of-a-kind queens and get paid off.
We did not join the action until the river, by which time the five community cards read 
and Ionel had lead, from the big blind seat, for 2,000 chips into a pot worth approximately 3,500. Nitollo then made it 9,600 to play sending Ionel into the tank.
He stayed there for around 90 seconds, taking the occasional drag of his electronic cigarette before nonchalantly tossing in the extra chips. No sooner had they touched the beige cloth, Nitollo proudly flipped his hole cards onto their backs to reveal 
for quad queens. Must be nice.
