Herm On The Rise

With 290,000 already in the pot and a flop of {6-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}, Mark Herm bet 55,000 from the small blind only to have Mads Amot raise to 125,000 from the big. Herm thought for about a minutes and then slide his entire stack forward. Before he'd even released his hands Amot snap-folded.

With that, Herm is over a million.

Sarwer Has Aces Cracked Again

Jeff Sarwer has just had aces cracked and is on the verge of elimination here in Prague.

Just before the break, Ramzi Jelassi opened to 40,000 in the hijack, the cutoff folded and Mikhail Petrov three-bet on the button to 87,000. Jose Manuel Nadal Sordo folded his small blind but Sarwer stuck in a four-bet to 176,000. Jelassi quickly released his hand, but Petrov took a little longer before deciding to call.

The dealer spread the {k-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{7-Clubs} flop and Sarwer lead out for 180,000. After a brief pause, Petrov raised to what looked like 400,000 but we did not get the chance to count the yellow T25,000 chips because Sarwar moved all in and Petrov snap-called.

Petrov: {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}
Sarwer: {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}

"Oh come on!" bellowed a very disappointed Sarwer.

The turn was the {10-Diamonds} and the river was the {8-Diamonds} and Sarwer was left with just 140,000.

Sarwer has had his aces beaten whilst deep in EPT main events at east four or five times, such a sick game sometimes!

Nuutinen Spikes The Turn To Stay Alive

Jose Manuel Nadal Sordo opened for 50,000 only to have Jorma Nuutinen three-bet all in for 452,000. Sordo gave it a little thought before making the call.

Showdown
Sordo: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}
Nuutinen: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}

Nuutinen was flipping for his tournament life, and things look bleak when the flop fell {Q-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{3-Spades} and paired Sordo's queen. Nuutinen stood in preparation of his exit, and no sooner did he get on his feet than the dealer burned and turned the {10-Clubs}. Nuutinen spiked a ten to retake the lead and leave Sordo drawing dead.

The meaningless {3-Diamonds} completed the board on the river and a disappointed Sordo was left with just 300,000.

Mads Amot Eliminated in 19th Place (€25,000)

Mads Amot
Mads Amot

We just witnessed perhaps the most brutal beat of the tournament, and certainly the most emotionally charged.

It began when Mariusz Klosinski opened for 50,000 under the gun and Mads Amot called from the button. Both the blinds got out of the way, and it was heads-up action to the {8-Clubs}{10-Spades}{9-Spades} flop. Klosinski continued his aggression with a bet of 75,000, and then called when Amot raised to 210,000.

When the {2-Spades} turn, Klosinski slowed down with a check and Amot bet 275,000. Klosinski, who held the bigger stack, took his time before moving all, and Amot leaned back in his chair. He had approximately 700,000 behind and tanked for 90 seconds before quietly announcing, "I call."

Klosinski tabled {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} for a pair of kings, and Amot proudly slapped down {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} for a flopped set. The Norwegian was a huge favorite to double to 3 million, but poker can be cruel as the {K-Clubs} spiked on the river. Klosinski had hit his two outer to steal the pot.

Amot was dealt a crushing blow, and all around could fell his disappointment. He immediately shot away from the table and kicked a nearby chair in angst. He also shouted to no one in particular while Klosinski was vocally celebrating at the other end of the table. Amot wasn't upset as his opponent so much as the unfortunate turn of events.

Amot vented a bit more off to the side, and then composed himself enough to return to the table and shake hands with the remaining players, Klosinski included. With that emotionally charged elimination, Amot has become out 19th-place finisher.

Nice Flop For Leonzio

Romanian Dany Parlafes opened from under the gun with a raise to 50,000 and the action passed around to Marco Leonzio in the big blind. Leonzio checked his cards before moving all-in for 433,000 chips.

Parlafes went into the tank for over a minute before calling and putting his Italian opponent at risk.

Parlafes: {K-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Leonzio: {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}

Once again, a poker player's tournament life was in the hands of a coinflip situation. However, any thoughts of losing the flip were soon banished from Leonzio's hands when the flop came down {3-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{9-Spades}! The turn and river were the {10-Hearts} and the {10-Diamonds} and Leonzio doubled up.
