Half the Field Remains as the March to Final Table Begins on Day 2

Notes on Notes on Notes...
Notes on Notes on Notes...

Yesterday, the Season 10 European Poker Tour London £10,000+300 High Roller - a one re-entry event - attracted 148 entries (36 more than the EPT8 London High Roller in March), but throughout the course of the day exactly half the field hit the rail. That leaves 74 players here at the start of Day 2, though that number will go up as registration is open until the start of play.

Leading the 74 survivors is Carla Sabini, who happened to make a deep run in the Main Event yesterday before hopping in this tournament. The Canadian bagged 269,700 chips, and is looking to add to her $255,690 in career live tournament earnings.

Other big stacks include Antonio Lafosse (257,800), Shawn Buchanan (211,500), Frederik Jensen (196,100), Talal Shakerchi (187,400), Sorel Mizzi (180,900), Grant Levy (179,700), Dan Shak (168,700) and Jason Mercier (164,400). Joining them on Day 2 are Team PokerStars Pros Luca Pagano, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Eugene Katchalov, Vicky Coren, Ville Wahlbeck, and Jonathan Duhamel.

The plan for the day was to play down to the final table, but given the turnout we'll no doubt come short of that before play comes to a close for the night. Nonetheless, expect a full day of high roller action. Cards will be in the air at Noon local time, which is about two hours from now. Join us then as we bring you all the latest and greatest straight from the tournament floor.

Shorr Busts in Huge Hand After Ruling

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Shannon Shorr
Shannon Shorr

Shannon Shorr opened from the button to 4,200 and was called in the blinds by Team PokerStars Pro Vicky Coren and Ariel Silveiro.

The flop was {9-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} and it was checked to Shorr who bet 7,000. Coren folded and Silveiro made the call to see the {10-Diamonds} on the turn. The Brazilian checked again and this time Shorr checked behind him to see the {8-Diamonds} on the river.

Now this was where things got interesting:

Shorr picked out a bet of 16,400 and Silveiro quickly grabbed several 5,000 chips and put them in the middle. However, he took back one of the chips when he thought he had put in too many. The dealer seemed to think that Silveiro had put in four 5k chips (which would equate to a call) but Shorr was not convinced.

"Call the floor," he asked quietly but firmly.

The floor came across; Mohsin Charania and Stephen Chidwick both said that Silveiro had put out five 5k chips - since this was more than 50% of the bet (24,800) then Silveiro was forced to put in the minimum raise to 32,800.

Shorr now thought briefly before moving all in for 108,100 putting the onus back on Silveiro. The Brazilian tanked for several minutes before making the call.

Shorr showed {K-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and Silveiro flipped {Q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} for the second nuts to win the biggest pot of the tournament so far.

Raghavan Eliminates a Team PokerStars Pro

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Angel Guillen
Angel Guillen

A short-stacked Angel Guillen moved all in for his last 26,700 from the under-the-gun position and received a call from Ravi Raghavan in the cutoff. The button and both blinds folded and Guillen discovered the bad news.

Raghavan: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}
Guillen: {4-Spades}{4-Hearts}

Raghavan had woken up with the granddaddy of all hand, and that mean Guillen was going to need either a four or some other miracle to stay alive. The {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop took away the latter options, and that meant Guillen was going to need a four. The {10-Hearts} turn wasn't it, and neither was the {9-Hearts} river.

Guillen silently gathered his things and then made a hasty exit from the tournament floor.

Shak Eliminates Mercier; Takes Huge Chip Lead

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

Coming into the "D" room, we saw a board reading {10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} with Dan Shak's {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs} proudly on display as Jason Mercier was counting out chips, over 200,000 of them and passing them across to his opponent.

Mercier apparently had held {K-}{Q-} in the hand but we are unsure where the money went in on the board.

The American was left with just 800 in chips and they went in the next hand with {8-Spades}{3-Spades}, ironically against Shak again. The latter flopped a set with {6-Spades}{6-Hearts} on a {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs} to knock out the Team PokerStars Pro.

A Conversation with the Devilfish and Poker Brat

Level 13 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Phil Hellmuth  & Dave Ulliott
Phil Hellmuth & Dave Ulliott

There's just one table remaining in the "C" Room, but it could very well be the most entertaining left in the tournament thanks to Phil Hellmuth and David "Devilfish" Ulliott. The two have met countless times over the years and could be called friends, albeit it competitive and egotistical ones.

When we made our pass, the dynamic duo were in engaged in a conversation about a past Omaha hi/lo hand the two had played. From what we could piece together, Hellmuth got his chips in on a {10-}{10-}{9-} flop with a hand like {A-}{K-}{10-}{x-} and received a call from Devilfish, who held {a-}{a-}{q-}{j-} for an up-and-down straight draw with the nut flush draw. Long story short, Ulliott ended up winning the hand and Hellmuth has never forgotten.

The two argued about the specifics with each accusing the other of not having a good memory. Hellmuth indicated that he was willing to make a wager, but such talk soon fizzled out. The two then began to talk about how they have nothing but good things to say about one another.

About this time Hellmuth had the big blind and action folded to Ulliott, who raised to 10,000. One by one the remaining players folded, including Hellmuth, and the Devilfish quipped, "I put the extra big raise in there, Phil, just so you'd think I had shit." Ulliott then flashed the {a-Spades}{k-Spades}.

The banter is all in good fun, but unfortunately it'll come to an end soon as their table is the next to break.

Hellmuth No Longer High Rolling

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth has been known to let his stack dwindle to critical levels, and this event proved no different. The "Poker Brat" registered at the start of Day 2 and received a starting stack of 50,000, but it only seemed to go down.

In his final hand, Hellmuth was down to 7,800 and had to put 4,000 of it out for the big blind and 500 to the ante. Needless to say, he called off after Frederik Jensen opened from the under-the-gun position. Jensen tabled the {q-Spades}{10-Diamonds} and Hellmuth said that he called off without looking.

"Do you mind if I show just one?" Hellmuth asked. Jensen agreed and Hellmuth revealed just the {8-Hearts}. The dealer then put out the {a-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{9-Clubs} flop. Hellmuth didn't hit, but the good news was Jensen didn't improve either.

"Oh my, I'm a favorite now," Hellmuth said excitedly when the {2-Clubs} turn put four clubs on the board. Hellmuth still didn't look at his other card and waited for the dealer to put out the river, which came the {6-Spades}. In dramatic fashion Hellmuth sent his card high into the air so they landed face up. There was the {8-Hearts} of course, and the other card was the... {3-Spades}.

Hellmuth missed and Jensen's queen took the pot. "That was fun," Hellmuth laughed. He then shook hands with every player at the table and then took his leave from the tournament.

Behbehani Gets Slowrolled

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Frederik Jensen
Frederik Jensen

There's been a lot of talk about Salman Behbehani's slowroll yesterday - most of it friendly joshing. However Behbehani just got slowrolled himself.

Frederik Jensen had opened to 12,000 and Behbehani moved all in from the small blind. Jensen tanked for a few minutes, talking to himself and eventually calling the clock on himself.

The floor came over and gave Jensen the one minute warning. After the floor told Jensen he had just 15 seconds left, the Dane said, "Ok I call," and turned over {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}! The whole table burst out laughing including Behbehani who added, "I knew you were slowrolling me when you started talking to yourself." He turned over {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}.

The board came {2-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{K-Clubs} as Jensen faded a pretty nasty looking turn to double up.

"Nice hand," said Behbehani, "mediocre slowroll."

Grospellier Fails to Return to Paltry Stack

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier
Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier

Tony Bloom opened for 12,000 from the cutoff and a short-stacked Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier three-bet all in for 110,000. Bloom made the call and the cards were turned up.

Grospellier: {a-Hearts}{8-Clubs}
Bloom: {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

Grospellier got it in good but the Team PokerStars Pro did not seem happy when the flop came down {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{7-Hearts} to give Bloom trips. The {10-Clubs} turn left ElkY drawing dead and he was headed out the door even before the {A-Clubs} completed the board on the river.

The stacks were verified and Bloom actually had a little less than the Frenchman. The staff attempted to track Grospellier down, and whether or not they couldn't find him or he opted not to return to 2,500 remains unclear. What is known is that after attempts were made, action resumed with the last of Grospellier's chips going in for his small blind. Since he wasn't there his hand was killed and he was officially eliminated from the tournament.

Cooler Flop Leads to Seidel's Exit

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Erik Seidel
Erik Seidel

After a player had opened from early position, Erik Seidel three-bet to 40,000 from the hijack. When action reached Team PokerStars Pro Ville Wahlbeck in the small blind, he put in a four-bet to 90,000 and the original raiser folded. Seidel thought for a bit before making the call, and it was heads-up action to the {6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} flop.

Wahlbeck was first to act and bet 70,000. Seidel responded by moving all in for right around 220,000 and Wahlbeck snap-called.

Wahlbeck: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}
Seidel: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

It was a huge flop as Wahlbeck held an overpair while Seidel flopped top pair with a flush draw. According to the PokerNews Odds Calculator, Seidel had a 43.13% chance of hitting his hand while Wahlbeck would hold 56.87% of the time.

The {3-Spades} turn was a blank, and Seidel dropped to a 3-1 dog. The dealer burned one last time and put out the {9-Clubs}. Seidel missed his plethora of outs, and just like that he was eliminated from the tournament.

Duhamel Bubbles the High Roller

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Jonathan Duhamel
Jonathan Duhamel

The last hand of the level, Jonathan Duhamel opened to 20,000 and Talal Shakerchi flat-called. Sorel Mizzi then squeezed to 63,000 from late position.

Duhamel thought for a moment then moved all in, Shakerchi quickly folded and Mizzi asked for a count. It was around 200,000 more to Mizzi but he made the call after a couple of minutes of calculations.

Duhamel: {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}
Mizzi: {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}

The flop came {10-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Clubs} and all looked good for the Team PokerStars Pro, but the {J-Clubs} on the turn was the worst card in the deck as Mizzi jumped ahead and picked up a flush draw too.

The {10-Diamonds} came on the river and Duhamel was eliminated right on the stroke of the break.
