Aido vs. Katayev

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

On a flop of {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}, Kataev Katayev checked from the small blind, the big did the same, and Spain's Sergio Aido bet 1,500 from the button. Katayev made the call, the big blind folded, and then it was checked down as the {Q-Diamonds} appeared on the turn followed by the {2-Clubs} on the river. Katayev tabled the {k-Spades}{10-Spades} for king high, and it was good as Aido mucked.

Not much of a hand, but it gave us a good excuse to update you on their chip counts. As you can see, both are doing quite well.

Van Zadelhoff Nearly Triples

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Steven van Zadelhoff opened to 1,200 under-the-gun and received a call from the player on the button. The player in the big blind squeezed to 3,700 and Van Zadelhoff decided to flat. There was enough in the pot for the player on the button to make his move; he went all in for about 20,000. The big blind reshoved with his {A-}{K-} but unfortunately for both of them, Van Zadelhoff was waiting with aces and made the call for his tournament life.

Van Zadelhoff was up against the pocket tens from the button and ace king from the big blind. His hand held up and he was up to 96,000 after five blanks on the table.

Wet Board Dynamics

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Lebanese player Bassel Moussa opened for 1,150 from early position, was called by Apostolos Bechrakis in mid position and from the big blind by James Gilbert from the USA. {a-Spades}{9-Hearts}{k-Spades} was the flop and Gilbert checked it to the opener. Moussa continued for 1,750 and while Bechrakis called in position Gilbert opted to fold. The turn card was the {6-Spades} and when Moussa checked, a bet of 2,500 from Bechrakis saw him awarded the pot.

Russian Aggression

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Ramil Boyazitov from Russia seems to be in an aggressive mood just after his dinner break. On the turn card {5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{3-Spades} he splashed some chips into the pot, more than enough to cover his opponent’s stack of 15,000. Phuc Minh Nguyen was that opponent and he checked his cards a few times before deciding not to risk it all on that particular board and folding. Boyazitov seemed to want to show put in the end released his cards to the dealer.

The next hand was opened by Matt Frankland to 1,250 who found a caller in Boyazitov and then, from the small blind, a raise to 3,150 from Dmitriy Kim. The big blind and Frankland folded but Boyazitov made the call to see a flop of {2-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}. Kim bet 6,500, about half his stack, and called when Boyazitov set him in. Kim’s {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds} were in the lead and Boyazitov needed help with his {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}. The turn {5-Clubs} and river {2-Spades} were enough to double up Kim and dent the aggressive Russian’s stack.

Selbst Doubles (With Some Luck)

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Vanessa Selbst

Just coming back from dinner break, a big hand found place at table 12. With the big blind not yet back from dinner, Walid Habib opened to 1,100 from the hijack position. Next door neighbor Vanessa Selbst shoved all in for 9,150 and the button and small blind quickly folded.

Action was thus back on Habib who gave it some good thoughts as he counted out the 9,150 for the call. Selbst tried to convince Habib not to call and said honestly she wasn't looking to go to showdown. At one point she even motioned to shove Habib's 9,150 back, making sure he wouldn't slip it over the line by accident. In the end her efforts were not rewarded though as Habib called anyway. Selbst turned her hand over with a painful look on her face. Habib had the best hand with his {3-Clubs}{3-Hearts}, Selbst was looking for some help with her {A-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}.

After the {K-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{8-Spades}-flop it was Selbst who got up from the table. She didn't motion to sit down again after the {K-Diamonds} hit the turn but all of the sudden she had some new outs. The {8-Clubs} fell on the river and Selbst finally sat back in her seat andgot her stack doubled.
