Amir Lehavot Leads Day 1b of Record-Breaking EPT Prague Main Event

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Amir Lehavot

The Season 10 European Poker Tour Prague Main Event continued on Friday with Day 1b action from the Hilton in the Czech Republic’s largest city. Day 1a attracted 389 players, and a staggering 609 showed up for the second starting flight to make a combined total of 998 players – making it the largest EPT Prague ever! What’s more, that number could increase as late registration is open until the start of Day 2.

After eight 75-minute levels of play, the field was whittled down to 369 players with 2013 World Series of Poker third-place finisher Amir Lehavot and his stack of 229,300 leading the way – which is quite a bit more than Day 1a chip leader Tiberu-Florian Georgescu's 191,000.

It didn’t take long for action to heat up on Day 1b, and one of the game’s toughest players was among the first to go. At the end of Level 1 (50/100), World Series of Poker bracelet winner Pascal Lefrancois was eliminated from the tournament. Our Live Reporting Team didn't come across the hand until things had played out, but they arrived in time to see Italy's Mustapha Kanit with the {4-Spades}{j-Spades} in front of him on a {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} board. Lefrancois who looked a bit disgusted, chucked his cards to the muck unseen and made a hasty exit from the event.

In Level 6 (200/400/50) Team PokerStars Pro Luca Pagano won a monster pot and in the process eliminated Chris Moorman. It happened when Pagano raised to 900 from under the gun, both Kitty Kuo and Andrey Shaporin called, and Moorman raised it up to 4,200 from the big blind. Both Pagano and Shaporin called, the flop came down {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}, and Moorman continued for 4,700. Both his opponents called, the {q-Hearts} turned, and Moorman moved all-in for 13,500, Pagano isolated with a raise, which inspired the Russian to tank-fold the {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} face-up. Moorman turned over {9-Hearts}{4-Hearts} whilst Pagano the {j-Clubs}{j-Spades} for a set. The river was the {4-Diamonds} meaning that Shaporin would've made the flush had he stuck around. Nonetheless, Pagano chipped up to 110,000 and knocked out Moorman. Pagano would go on to finish the night with 137,600.

Others who failed to survive the night were Team PokerStars Pros Max Lykov, Martin Hruby, Liv Boeree, Marcin Horecki, Richard Toth, Ville Wahlbeck, and Isaac Haxton. Likewise, notables like Jason Duval, Joe Kuether, Fabrice Soulier, Jan Bendik, Mike “Timex” McDonald, Jake Balsiger, Ren Feenstra, Paul Berende, Will Failla, Ignat “0Human0” Liviu, and Jamila Von Perger all hit the rail.

While many fell, a laundry list of notables made it through the Day 1b minefield. Among those who will return on Day 2 are former World Poker Tour Montreal champ Jonathan Roy; former EPT Prague champ Martin Finger (58,600); and reigning EPT London champ Robin Ylitalo (55,400). They’ll be joined by Team PokerStars Pros Eugene Katchalov (81,900), Dag Palovic (79,900), Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier (79,700), Daniel Negreanu (74,600), David Williams (50,500), Marc-Andre Ladouceur (48,500), Christophe De Meulder (40,100) and Mickey Petersen (37,800).

The surviving players from both starting flights will combine into one field on Saturday for Day 2 action. Cards will be in the air at Noon local time, and of course the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be on hand to bring you all the latest and greatest from the largest EPT Prague in history!.

While you wait, check out the new PokerNews Punch List with Sarah Grant and Chad Holloway:

Von Perger Purged

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Jamila Von Perger
Jamila Von Perger

It went all rather quickly but one thing is for sure: Jamila Von Perger is no longer an active participant in the PokerStars.net European Poker Tour Prague Main Event. She was already rather short and got her last chips in with {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}. That third best starting hand in Hold'Em was second best in the showdown she had with her neighbor who tabled {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}.

It was preflop all in and Von Perger was drawing very slim after the flop already: {K-Clubs}{10-Spades}{2-Diamonds}. The {A-Diamonds} on the turn made her wait for just one more second before finally exiting after the {4-Spades} hit the river anyway. Von Perger, who went deep in EPT Barcelona (23rd for €34,950), can cheer her boyfriend on if she wants to; Manig Loeser is still in the tournament.

Vamplew Triples & Firsau Busts in the Same Hand

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
David Vamplew
David Vamplew

Russia's Sergey Baburin opened for 800 under the gun and received a call from Vasili Firsau in middle position. Former EPT champ David Vamplew then three-bet all in for 4,150 from the hijack, action folded back to Baburin, and he made the call. Firsau then counted out his chips and put in a four-bet to 14,800, leaving himself about a thousand behind. Baburin thought his opponent was all in and said, "Call."

The pots were sorted out and then Baburin moved all in on the {3-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{7-Hearts} flop. Firsau called off and all three players turned up their hands.

Baburin: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Firsau: {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}
Vamplew: {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

Vamplew was up out of his seat preparing to make his exit, but he sat back down when the dealer burned and turned the {A-Clubs}. While Vamplew found new life, Firsau was still at risk in the sizable side pot. He would need an eight and an eight only to stay alive, but it wasn't meant to be as the {9-Diamonds} blanked on the river.

Queens versus Kings versus Aces

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante
Seth Berger
Seth Berger

A player at the table made it 800 after which Dutchman Farid Chati two positions down made it 2,025. Maxim Lykov in the cutoff four bet to more than 5,000 and American Seth Berger cold five-bet allin for a little over 10,000. Action folded to Chati who announced to be allin as well and Lykov followed suit calling allin.

Chati showed {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}, Lykov had {K-Clubs}{K-Spades} and Berger tabled {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}. The flop was a real rollercoaster as the {K-Diamonds} was in the window and the table looked in awe. The {A-Spades} followed though and now we could hear Chati breathe a sigh of relief. The last card on the flop was the {10-Diamonds} though, giving Berger a gutshot for the win all of the sudden. Lykov had just one out for the victory and Berger lost one after the {7-Diamonds} hit the turn as the {J-Diamonds} no longer would give him the win. The {5-Spades} fell on the river and Farid Chati eliminated two players at once.

"Two seats open" the dealer shouted well before Lykov and Berger had even exited the tournament area. Chati in the mean time was stacking about 77,000 in chips.

EPT Prague Main Event Day 1b Starts Soon

Tournamet Area
Tournamet Area

Things are about to get underway here on Day 1b of the EPT Prague Main Event, which is being held here at the Hilton Prague in the Czech Republic's largest city.

Team PokerStars Pros are out in force today and we will be seeing appearances from England's Liv Boeree, Luca Pagano and Dario Minieri from Italy, Dag Palovic from Slovakia, and Martin Hruby from right here in the Czech Republic.

Other notables who will be in action include Full Tilt Poker Tour Ambassador Dermot Blain, who has been hitting the circuit hard this year when not crushing online, and UK cash game pro Ryan Spittles, who is coming straight from cashing in the Eureka High Roller last night.

Early indications show 180 players are registered so far, but many more are expected to buy in before the close of registration; in fact; we'd be surprised if that number doesn't at least double. The record here at Prague was set last year with a final tally of 864 players, so with 389 Day 1a entrants there is adecent chance Season 10 will surpass that number.

Starting stacks are 30,000, with blinds starting at 50/100. We will play eight 75 minute levels today before the day finishes and we discover who makes it through to Day 2 of this prestigious event.

Throughout the day the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be bringing you all the latest chip counts, notable hands, and action from the tables, as well as news from the wider Eureka Prague Poker Festival, player tweets, exclusive videos and more.

Read all about it right here, and follow the action live on the feature table at pokerstars.tv with commentary from James Hartigan, who will take up his new post as Senior Creative Producer on the PokerStars.com EPT production team, and his irrepressible co-host Joe “Stapes” Stapleton.

Action is set to get underway in less than an hour, so stay tuned!
