Season 10 of the European Poker Tour Kicks Off Today with the €50,000 Super High Roller
Season 10 of the 2012 PokerStars.com European Poker Tour will begin in just a couple of hours with the €50,000 Super High Roller here at the Casino Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain.
The three-day event promises to kick off the season in a big way as 30 players are already confirmed. Those scheduled to play include Team PokerStars Pros Jason Mercier, Daniel Negreanu, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, and 2010 world champion Jonathan Duhamel.
Also playing will be last season’s winner Dan Smith, who beat a 55-strong field to win €962,925, a Shamballa bracelet, and the first major EPT title of Season 9. Smith defeated JC Alvarado heads up to take the title. Smith will be back in action this year and looking to complete an astounding back-to-back result.

There is a lot of excitement in the air already as yesterday the Estrellas Barcelona €1,100 Main Event attracted an astounding 1,798 players to create a €1,744,060 prize pool, of which €298,600 will go to the winner. That event is likely to not only be the biggest ever live tournament held by PokerStars, but thought also to be one the biggest ever fields of that buy-in ever held outside of the World Series of Poker.
In that Estrellas Main Event, just 558 players made it through to Day 2 in that tournament including Team PokerStars Pros Rino Mathis, Christophe De Meulder, Richard Toth, Marcin Horecki, Angel Guillen, Juan Manuel Pastor, and Andre Akkari ,plus Friend of PokerStars Charlotte Van Brabander. French PokerStars qualifier Julien Gaston, who played Day 1a, remains the chip leader with 282,800. Meanwhile, the elite event on hand today, the three-day €50,000 Super High Roller, kicks off at noon and all players will begin with 250,000 in chips.
