Seven Will Return with Lykov Leading

Level 21 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Max Lykov - Chip Leader
Max Lykov - Chip Leader

On Friday, the second day of play of the Season 9 European Poker Tour Berlin High Roller event wrapped up. Forty-five hopefuls returned to the felt with hopes of winning one of the most prestigious events at this stop. Play occurred all of the way down to a final table of eight and continued down to the final seven before concluding for the evening. Leading the final seven and representing the red spade is Team Pro Max Lykov with a stack of 1.683 million.

Right on Lykov's heels is the incomparable Martin Kabrhel who is just 40,000 shy of Lykov with 1.643 million. Rounding out the top three is Griffin Benger who will bring 1.128 million back for Day 3.

The field was littered with big-name professional players all seeking the coveted trophy as well as the €429,000 first-place prize. That being said, some fell more quickly than others. Names like Jan Heitmann, Bryn Kenney, Daniel Cates, and Marvin Rettenmaier all fell within the first level of the day. Mike McDonald was also eliminated by Aaron Lim in a relatively brutal fashion. Lim, who recently took down the 2013 APPT Seoul Main Event as well as his first bracelet at the WSOP Asia-Pacific during #4, a $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em Six Max is running hot as of late and it showed when he and McDonald took a flop of {3-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} together. Lim check-raised McDonald all in and McDonald snapped off with {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}. Lim was behind with his {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} but managed to prevail when he spiked a queen immediately on the turn.

While those players fell in the first level, others continued to drop quickly as the day progressed. Scott Seiver eliminated Ankush Mandavia when his ace-queen held against Mandavia's ace-ten. Not too much later in the day there were a flurry of eliminations that saw the exit of professionals Paul Volpe, Jake Cody, and Dominik Nitsche. Others to bust as the money bubble approached were Fabian Quoss, Paul Berende, Jussi Nevanlinna, and Marc-Andre Ladouceur.

With seventeen players left, the money bubble finally approached. A short-stacked Chris Brammer found a bit of hope when he was able to score a double up through Lim. However, just a few hands later Lim was able to exact revenge and pop the bubble through Brammer's elimination. At 3,000/6,000/1,000, Brammer opened to 19,000 from the cutoff. The Aussie cut out a three-bet to 49,000 out of the big blind and Brammer moved all in over the top for around 200,000. Lim instantly called and the hands were rolled over on the felt.

Lim: {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}
Brammer: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

Brammer was in great shape, and the {2-Spades}{j-Hearts}{4-Clubs} board missed Lim completely. The {k-Diamonds} on the turn looked like a bad card for Lim, but it actually gave him an extra out to make the best hand. That's exactly what happened, as the {10-Spades} struck the felt and suddenly Brammer was the bubble boy.

Everyone from here on out was guaranteed at least €22,000 and that's exactly what Georgios Karakousis and David Peters received. Also finishing in the money were Gautam Sabharwal, Artem Litvinov (€24,700), Igor Kurganov, AP Phahurat (€27,500), and Day 2 chip leader Ronny Voth (€30,300).

Voth's elimination set in motion the unofficial final table of nine. The final table bubble was burst quickly, however, when Kabrhel and Jan-Peter Jachtmann played a 1.4 million-chip pot before the flop. Jachtmann opened from early position to 37,000 and action trickled around to Kabrhel on the button. He made it 101,000 to go and it folded back to Jachtmann. He double fisted all of his chips into the middle of the table for a bet totaling over 700,000. Kabrhel snapped him off.

Jachtmann: {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}
Kabrhel: {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}

The board fell down {9-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{3-Spades}{5-Spades} and just like that the official final table was set. The players decided to keep playing rather than stopping at the final table and so the cards continued to fly for two more levels. During that time the final table saw its first casualty in the form of PCA $100,000 Super High Roller champion Scott Seiver. Seiver was very active at the final table but finally saw his demise when he opened a pot with a min-raise at 10,000/20,000/3,000. It folded around to Lykov who made it 92,000 to go. Action came back to Seiver who moved the rest of his stack all in. Lykov quickly tabled his cards and announced a call.

Seiver held {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and was crushed by Lykov's {A-Spades}{K-Spades}. Seiver found gin on the flop, however, as he paired up when {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{4-Spades} was spread across the felt. Suddenly Lykov was looking for a king or a spade to send the online legend packing. The {7-Hearts} on the turn was meaningless but the {10-Spades} on the river sealed Seiver's fate.

The final seven will return to the felt on Saturday at 13:00 CET to engage in battle one last time. Be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews as we remain on hand for the exciting conclusion of this massive high roller event!

Fireworks on the Final Hand

Level 21 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Martin Kabrhel - "Good fold."
Martin Kabrhel - "Good fold."

On the final hand of the day, Max Lykov opened to 40,000 in the hijack seat, and Martin Kabrhel called out of the big blind. Both players knuckled after the flop fell {7-Spades}{a-Spades}{8-Hearts}, and Kabrhel led out for 61,000 when the {3-Clubs} turned. Lykov called.

The {q-Diamonds} completed the board, and Kabrhel cut out 138,000. He then placed it on top of his stack, tanked for a bit, then grabbed the two towers if blue T5,000 chips underneath and lifted the entire 338,000-chip bet and plopped it across the line.

"So stupid," Lykov said.

The Russian cut out enough chips to call the one-and-a-half times pot bet, examined his stack to see what he would have left if he called, then folded. Kabrhel looked at his cards one last time, then tossed them into the muck.

Kabrhel asked Lykov what he had while the two were bagging their chips, and Lykov said he had king-high.

"That's a good fold," Kabrhel told him. "I had ten-seven."

"That was nothing," Lykov returned.

"I know," said Kabrhel.

On the penultimate hand of the evening, Martin Kabrhel opened to 40,000 from under the gun, Griffin Benger three-bet shoved for 532,000 from the hijack seat, and James Mitchell re-shoved from the big blind. Kabrhel quickly folded.

Benger: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Mitchell: {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}

Benger took the lead when the flop fell {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{7-Hearts}, giving him a pair of aces. The {5-Spades} on the turn gave Mitchell a gut-shot straight draw to go along with his two outs to hit a set, but the {9-Clubs} bricked on the river.

Benger doubled to 1.131 million, while Mitchell plummeted to 596,000.

Scott Seiver - 8th Place
Scott Seiver - 8th Place

Scott Seiver opened to 40,000 from early position and it folded around to Team Pro Max Lykov who made it 92,000 to go. Action went back to Seiver who announced a four-bet all in. Lykov snap called.

Lykov: {A-Spades}{k-Spades}
Seiver: {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}

Seiver was behind and needed help. On the flop, though, he found exactly that when he paired up through {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{4-Spades}. He would still be eliminated by a king or a spade, however giving Lykov a better pair of a flush.

The turn was the {7-Hearts} and Seiver was still safe. The river, however, was not as kind. The {10-Spades} ripped off onto the felt and Seiver was eliminated by Lykov's nut flush.

Jan-Peter Jachtmann - 9th Place

Wow. We just witnessed a huge pot that resulted in the eliminated of Jan-Peter Jachtmann and saw a huge amount of chips go the way of Martin Kabrhel.

Jachtmann opened early position to 37,000 and action trickled around to Kabrhel on the button. He made it 101,000 to go and it folded back to Jachtmann. He double fisted all of his chips into the middle of the table for a bet totaling over 700,000. Kabrhel snapped him off.

The board fell down {9-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{3-Spades}{5-Spades} and just like that our official final table was set. Jachtmann was forced to settle for ninth place while Kabrhel now sits second in chips, bested only by Max Lykov.

Ronny Voth - 10th Place
Ronny Voth - 10th Place

Ronny Voth got his short stack all in before the flop holding {J-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} against the {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs} of Aaron Lim.

In what could possibly be the most dramatic flop of all time, both players caught huge pieces when {Q-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} hit the flop. Voth was currently behind but drawing to essentially the world heading to the next streets. Somehow, though, Lim was able to hold when it came {5-Hearts} and {8-Hearts}, keeping Lim's kings as the best pair.

Voth's elimination marked a total redraw to the unofficial final table of nine.

Max Lykov limped in from the small blind, Jan-Peter Jachtmann raised to 27,000 in the big blind, and Lykov called.

The flop fell {5-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{q-Hearts}, Lykov check-called a 30,000-chip bet, and the turn brought the {k-Spades}. Lykov checked again, Jachtmann fired another 55,000, and again, Lykov called.

The {6-Clubs} completed the board, Lykov checked a third and final time, and Jachtmann slid forward 115,000. Lykov called.

"Seven-high," Jachtmann said.

Lykov showed {j-Diamonds}{4-Spades} for a pair of jacks, and raked in the pot.

Scott Seiver triples up

After raise-folding with {a-}{9-} and being shown an ace from his three-bettor, Jan-Peter Jachtmann, Seiver moved all in for 102,000 from the small blind over an open to 20,000 from Ronny Voth. Max Lykov cold-called from the big blind, and Voth called as well.

The dealer fanned {q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, both players checked, and the {5-Diamonds} turned. Lykov led out for 76,000, and Voth instantly folded.

Seiver: {a-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}
Lykov: {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}

Only a seven would keep Seiver alive, and to the chagrin of the remaining players looking to combine to an unofficial final table of nine, the {7-Clubs} spiked on the river.

Seiver tripled to 311,000 chips, while Lykov continued to fall, and now has 1.045 million.

Igor Kurganov - 12th Place
Igor Kurganov - 12th Place

Ronny Voth opened to 16,000 from under the gun, Igor Kurganov called in the cutoff, and Jan-Peter Jachtmann defended his big blind. The dealer fanned {10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}, Jachtmann checked, and Voth continued for 21,000. only Kurganov called.

The turn was the {3-Diamonds}, Voth led out for 80,000, and Kurganov made the call.

The {9-Clubs} completed the board, Voth led again - this time for 145,000 - and Kurganov went deep into the tank. He started talking to himself, or perhaps it was the dealer, and then he finally called.

"Set," Voth said excitedly, showing {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}.

Kurganov mucked his hand, and Voth let out a long sigh of relief.

The next hand, Kurganov opened to 16,000, Max Lykov called on the button, and Voth defended his big blind. The flop fell {6-Spades}{a-Spades}{9-Spades}, Voth checked, and Kurganov fired 35,000. Only Lykov called.

The turn was the {5-Clubs}, Kurganov moved all in, and Lykov snap-called.

Lykov: {k-Spades}{10-Spades}
Kurganov: {9-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

Kurganov urged the dealer to pair the board, but the {4-Clubs} on the river was a brick, and he was eliminated in 12th place.
