A Helbig First Pot

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Alexander Helbig opened with a raise to 24,000 only to be three bet to 53,000 by Oleksii Khoroshenin from the button. Action folded back around to Helbig who tanked for quite some time before moving out a four-bet to 115,000.

The action was back on Khoroshenin who tanked for even longer before finally deciding to ship all in. Helbig called and the cards were revealed to find that the two were racing for Khoroshenin's tournament life.

Khoroshenin: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Helbig: {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}

Khoroshenin was slightly in the lead before the flop and stayed that way after the first three cards came {Q-Spades}{10-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}. The turn spelled heartbreak for Khoroshenin, though, as it brought the {A-Hearts} and paired Helbig. Khoroshenin threw his hands on his head in utter agony as soon as he realized he was one card away from elimination.

The {8-Hearts} on the river prompted a fist pump from Helbig as he was able to knock out a player and bring his stack over one million chips. Khoroshenin, on the other hand, saw a supremely early exit here on the first hand of the day.
