The Details of Soulier's Exit

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Fabrice Soulier on Day 1a
Fabrice Soulier on Day 1a

He won one of the most coveted bracelets during the 2011 WSOP but here in Berlin he's not adding a very prestigious EPT title to his resume. The $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. winner was knocked out a while ago in the following hand.

After losing a lot of chips earlier against Orpen Kisacikoglu it was the same player who made an end to his tournament run. On the first hand he lost with {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} versus {K-}{J-} when the flop brought {K-}{J-}{2-}.

A few hands later Kisacikoglu raised to 1,700 and after a three-bet to 4,500 it was Soulier who moved all in for 13,500. Kisacikoglu five-bet and that made the three-bettor fold.

Fabrice Soulier: {K-Diamonds}{K-Spades}
Orpen Kisacikoglu: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}

The board ran out {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and Soulier was unlucky once again. The Frenchman was knocked out and Kisacikoglu seems to be one of the lucky players so far on Day 2 here in Berlin.

Terry Climbs

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

The board read {J-Spades}{3-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{2-Hearts} and Todd Terry fired out 2,600. Petr Jelinek called and the dealer finished off the board with the {7-Hearts}. Terry dipped into his stack and came out with a 6,000-chip bet. Jelinek thought for a moment but ultimately decided to release his cards. The pot was pushed to Terry who is now sitting on about 59,000.

Jacobson Second Best Again

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Martin Jacobson
Martin Jacobson

Martin Jacobson was crowned runner-up of runner ups in the seventh EPT season when he finished second in both EPT Deauville and Vilamoura and fourth in Berlin. On top of that he also finished second in the Player of the Year rankings behind Fernando Brito. Just now Jacobson finished second again, but luckily for him it didn't hurt his stack too much.

On a {10-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} flop with three players involved the first one checked to Jacobson who bet 3,000. Giuseppe Vassallo raised it up to 10,000 and the third player folded. Jacobson took some time and made the call.

The turn brought the {Q-Hearts} and both players checked. On the river the {3-Hearts} hit and once again the action was checked. Vassallo showed {J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} and Jacobson mucked his cards.

Jacobson has been active on the live tournament circuit since 2008 and never did he cash less than $260,587 over a whole year. This year he's already got $138,808 in winnings after finishing fourth in the EPT Deauville High Roller for €83,200. On the Swedish all-time money list Jacobson is ranked fourth and much younger than the three players ahead of him. Even with a small stack he's still one of the players to look out for in this event.

The Persaud Of Happiness

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Nik Persaud has put a small dent in the mountain of chips owned by Ronny Voth.

The Brit opened to 2,200 off the button and Voth peeled from the big blind to see a {6-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop appear. Persaud continued for 2,200 and called when Voth check-raised up to 6,000.

On the {3-Spades} turn Voth set Persaud all in for his last 17,500 and was snap called.

Voth: {k-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for top pair.
Persaud: {5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for a straight.

The river came {a-Hearts}. Voth still has tons.

Sighing Samir

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Vanessa Selbst (Day 1b)
Vanessa Selbst (Day 1b)

Vanessa Selbst fired out five red T1,000 chips on a board of {9-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{6-Spades}. Frenchman Samir Merah let out a sigh, then raised to 15,000. Sebst dipped deep into the tank, and while she thought, Merah rechecked his cards, sighing once again.

Selbst reached for chips, grabbed two blue T5,000 checkers, and tossed them forward.

The river was the {10-Hearts}, and Selbst immediately checked. Merah let out another long sigh, this one lasting at least five seconds, then plopped 29,000 in front of him.

Selbst ripped her earbuds out and stared at the board. While the wheels were churning in her head, Merah dramatically checked his cards one last time. When he was done looking, he slammed his card protector back on top of them.

"Twenty-nine?" Selbst asked the dealer.

The dealer nodded.

Selbst turned her attention to Merah briefly, then made the call. Merah tried to table his cards as fast as possible, fumbling his chip protector before finally showing {k-Clubs}{q-Spades} for Broadway.

The Team Pro shook her head, then tossed her cards into the muck. About 30 seconds after the hand was over, Merah started to laugh.

"Excuse me for the bluff," he said in a thick French accent.

Merah Missteps

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Samir Merah opened to 2,800 from early position and was called by Apostolis Bechrakis from the button.

The dealer fanned a flop of {5-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Merah continued out for 3,300. Bechrakis called. The turn brought the {A-Spades} and the action went check-check. A second ace dropped down on the river when the {A-Diamonds} hit and Merah fired 3,600. Bechrakis called once more and Merah meekly tabled {7-Clubs}{2-Clubs}.

Bechrakis showed {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for trip aces and took down the pot. He's up to about 80,000 while Merah has fallen to about 220,000.
