Jacobson Leads Final Six as EPT Deauville High Roller Heads to a Third Day

Level 21 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Martin Jacobson
Martin Jacobson

The PokerStars.fr High Roller event was originally scheduled to be a two-day event but after those two days and 21 levels of action it will roll over to a third day tomorrow.

A total of 51 players returned today and they were joined by two new entries meaning 53 players out of the 85 total were in attendance. By the end of the day Martin Jacobson finished top of the remaining six with 1,299,000 chips, and best in with a chance of claiming the €313,000 top prize.

All the remaining players will sleep well tonight as they know they are guaranteed a minimum €47,500. Here's the remaining six and how they stand coming back for day 3:

1Steven Silverman353,000
2Alexandre Reard943,000
3Timothy Reilly823,000
4Vojtech Ruzicka1,051,000
5Martin Jacobson1,299,000
6Bryn Kenney472,000

One player who won't sleep well tonight was the unfortunate bubble boy. Tibor Nagygyorgy shoved his short stack in with ace-ten but ran into two players behind him pocket jacks and pocket aces. Adrian Mateos had the jacks and was also eliminated in the hand but min cashed by virtue of having the larger stack.

Play will resume at 1pm CET tomorrow where the latest High Roller champion of EPT Season 9 will be decided.

Reard Guard Action

Level 21 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Alexandre Reard
Alexandre Reard

Since losing THAT pot to Martin Jacobson, Alexandre Reard has been nursing a short stack. Those chips now have doubled in amount thanks to a double up through, ironically, Jacobson.

Jacobson opened to 40,000 in early position and the players folded around to Reard in the small blind. Reard announced he was all-in for 245,000 in total and this folded out Timothy Reilly and Vojtech Ruzicka. Jacobson was next to act and he called.

Jacobson: {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Reard: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}

A great time to find Big Slick as it had Jacobson's hand dominated. Neither player paired up on a {j-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{2-Spades} board, but Reard's king-kicker came into play and was enough to double him up.

Jonathan Duhamel Eliminated in 7th Place (€38,000)

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Jonathan Duhamel
Jonathan Duhamel

The last remaining Team PokerStars Pro, Jonathan Duhamel, has been eliminated and we are down to six in the High Roller.

Duhamel open-shoved for 55,000 from the cutoff and Steven Silverman asked how much the bet was.

"860,000" joked Duhamel, prompting laughter from the rest of the table.

Silverman called, as did Timothy Reilly in the big blind; it was not looking good for Duhamel.

The dealer spread the {9-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{8-Clubs} flop onto the table and Reilly check-called a 45,000 bet from Silverman. That was the last of the aggression as the active duo checked down the {6-Hearts} turn and {a-Clubs} river.

Duhamel: {K-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Reilly: {J-Spades}{9-Spades}
Silverman: {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}

Reilly's pair of nines won the pot and resigned Duhamel to seventh place. Maybe with the €38,000 he can purchase a new leather jacket here in Deauville, to replace the one he misplaced a couple of nights ago.

Jacobson Turning the Screw

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Martin Jacobson
Martin Jacobson

Martin Jacobson has just won a monster pot and is far and beyond the chip leader.

Jacobson has been putting pressure on everyone, first he shoved from the small blind and forced Bryn Kenney to fold, then he move in from the button and forced Kenney — again — and Jonathan Duhamel to muck their hands.

It is not just the short stacks he is bullying, he is also going for the throat of the biggest stacks, namely Alexandre Reard.

Timothy Reilly opened to 33,000 under the gun and after Vojtech Ruzicka folded Martin Jacobson called. Three players folded and it was up to Reard to act in the big blind. He checked his hole cards and raised to 75,000. Reilly folded but Jacobson called.

The already substantial pot grew even larger when Reard lead for 100,000 on the {9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{j-Spades} flop. Jacobson called and the pot swelled even further. The {2-Diamonds} was met with another Reard bet, one for 180,000! The increased sized didn't deter Jacobson and he called.

The river was the {3-Diamonds} and now Reard checked. Jacobson, who must have cajones the size of basketballs, moved all-in! Reard removed his sunglasses and tried to study his opponent and replay the hand in his head. Eventually, around a minute after Jacobson's shove, Reard folded and left himself 460,000 chips.

Alain Goldberg Eliminated in 8th Place (€28,500)

Alain Goldberg - 8th place
Alain Goldberg - 8th place

Alain Goldberg earned himself an extra €5,000 just by hanging on a few more minutes than Kevin MacPhee.

He shoved 69,000 into the big blind of Vojtech Ruzicka who made the call.

Goldberg: {a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}
Ruzicka: {q-Hearts}{5-Hearts}

The board ran {q-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{6-Spades}{10-Hearts}{7-Hearts} to pair Ruzicka's queen.

Kevin MacPhee - 9th place
Kevin MacPhee - 9th place

Kevin MacPhee will not be adding an EPT High Roller title to his Main Event title after he busted to Timothy Reilly.

MacPhee opened shoved for 275,000 from the button and Reilly called from the big blind.

MacPhee: {k-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Reilly: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}

The board ran {9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{5-Spades}{10-Spades}.

MacPhee wished all the best to the table and made his exit.

Andras Nemeth Eliminated in 10th Place ( €23,800)

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Andras Nemeth & Vicky Coren from earlier
Andras Nemeth & Vicky Coren from earlier

A squeeze play from Andras Nemeth had him leaving the tournament in 10th place.

Steven Silverman opened the pot to 22,000 from the hijack and he was called by Kevin MacPhee on the button before Nemeth shoved for 256,000 from the big blind. Silver re-shoved behind and that forced out MacPhee who open-folded {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}.

Nemeth: {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}
Silverman: {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

The board ran {10-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} to make Silverman two pair. MacPhee could've taken them both out if he'd called.

The players will no redraw onto one table. That draw and fresh chip counts coming up.

Davidi Kitai shoved from the button for 88,000 and took the blinds and antes. The very next hand he was all in again and this time Bryn Kenney moved all in behind.

Kitai: {k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Kenney: {a-Spades}{10-Clubs}

Double Elimination; Nagygyorgy Bubbles

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Tibor Nagygyorgy
Tibor Nagygyorgy

This bubble was like London buses: you wait for ages for a player to bust and then two go at once.

The action folded around to Tibor Nagygyorgy in the cut-off and he moved all for a little less than 100,000 chips. Alexandre Reard was on the button and moved his big stack in as well. If that wasn't enough Adrian Mateos called all in from the big blind for around 130,000.

Nagygyorgy: {a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Reard: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}
Mateos: {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}

The board ran {10-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{2-Clubs} to hand the whole pot to Reard.

Nagygyorgy was the shortest stack so he was the bubble boy; Mateos was the 12th place finisher.

No decision has yet been made as to whether play will continue after the final table of eight has been reached. Martin Jacobson joked that he'd suggest an equity chop once they reach that point.

Coren Eliminated by the Unstoppable Jacobson

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Andras Nemeth & Vicky Coren
Andras Nemeth & Vicky Coren

Martin Jacobson can do nothing wrong right now and will be disappointed to be sent on a dinner break.

Team PokerStars Pro Vicky Coren open-shoved from under the gun with what turned out to be {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades} and the players folded in turn around to Jacobson in the big blind. The young Swede snap-called and showed {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {10-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and with that Coren was eliminated and Jacobson climbed past one million chips.

"Back to back," said Jacobson to one of his table mates, suggesting he had aces in the big hand with Kitai a few minutes earlier.
