Compagno Shot Down by the Ace

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Panagiotis Sotiriadis, a live satellite qualifier, had bet 2,825 on a final board reading {7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{2-Spades}. Facing him at the other end of the table was PokerStars Player Paolo Compagno who gave it a good long think and finally made the call but mucked when Sotiriadis turned over {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} for ace high.

Sammartino Barrels

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Dario Sammartino opened for 450 and got one caller, Sven Wendt in the small blind. The two players saw a flop of {5-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs}. Wendt check called a bet of 500 from Sammartino. The turn was the {7-Diamonds} and now Wendt check called a bet of 900. The river was the {k-Spades}. Check again and a bet of 1,050 from Sammartino finally saw Wendt release his hand.

Vandersmissen Calls with Queens

Kevin Vandersmissen

Brazilian poker player Joao Baumgarten opened up the action with a raise to 400 from the hijack. The cutoff folded but Kevin Vandersmissen on the button made it 1,050 for the second time in a row. Both blinds folded and Baumgarten made the call.

{5-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{7-Spades} on the flop and Baumgarten check called Vandersmissen's 1,200 continuation bet.

Baumgarten made a more agressive move on the {k-Diamonds} turn. First he checked and let Vandersmissen bet 2,600. Baumgarten made it 6,800 to go and Vandersmissen made the call.

The {9-Hearts} fell on the river and Baumgarten bet out 8,300.

Now it was time for some thinking. Vandersmissen took his time while he counted out his chips. He took 8,300 apart and pondered some more.

Eventually he tossed those chips in and would soon be met by some good news. Baumgarten turned over {A-Spades}{3-Spades} for the missed flush draw. Vandersmissen tabled {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs} and took it down.

Kerkeni Comes Out of Nowhere

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

"Seat open, Table 28," we heard a dealer yell. We arrived just in time to see Isaac Krantz take his leave courtesy of Mohamed Kerkeni.

We missed the action, but by the looks of it the chips went in on the {2-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} flop.

Kerkeni: {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Krantz: {9-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}

Krantz held a pair and flush draw, and he needed to hit the latter as Kerkeni had middle set. The {Q-Clubs} turn wasn't what he was looking for, and neither was the {K-Hearts} river. Kerkeni held and he is already up to over 100K in just the third level of the day.

McCorkell Gives One Up

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Craig McCorkell raised under the gun to 525 and Justin Steinbrenner called in position. The big blind called as well and the flop brought out {4-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}. The big blind checked and McCorkell fired out 650 and only Steinbrenner called.

The turn brought the {J-Spades} and McCorkell quickly bet another 1,225 only to fold when Steinbrenner raised to 2,600.

McCorkell's still up a little from the start of the day with 38,000 chips.

Pressure From the Pro

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Marko Vukoja opened on the button for 450 and got the one caller in big blind PokerStars player Sebastian Pauli. The flop {q-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} was met by a check from both players and they saw a turn card {k-Hearts}. A check from Pauli, a bet of 600 from Vukoja and then a raise to 1,700 from Pauli. Vukoja made the call and they saw a river card {6-Hearts}. Both players checked and Pauli showed {7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} explaining the check-raise semi-bluff on the turn. Vukoja had hung on with {k-Spades}{2-Diamonds} to take down the pot.
