Spain's Samuel Bernabeu Leads Nearly 1,000 Players Returning for Day 2

Welcome back to another great day of poker from the sunny setting of Barcelona, Spain.

Today marks Day 2 of the 2015 European Poker Tour Barcelona €5,300 Main Event, and what an event this has turned out to be thus far. With an astounding 1,673 entries so far, it has proven to be the largest EPT main event in the history of the tour. To make it even more impressive, that number should rise with registration remaining open until the start of Day 2.

Leading the way into Day 2 is Spain's Samuel Bernabeu, who bagged up a whopping 203,000 in chips on yesterday's Day 1b. He eclipsed Day 1a's chip leader, Imad Derwiche with 170,000, by a bit and will be the man to catch going forward. Other notables with big stacks are Simeon Naydenov (157,000), Jude Ainsworth (155,800), Sin Melin (155,800), Andras Nemeth (148,800), and Erwann Pecheux (147,200).

Outside of the big stacks, there are several top pros still in the hunt. Niall Farrell finished up Day 1b with 84,400 in chips, and Winfred Yu bagged up 82,800. Coming from Day 1a, you have Patrik Antonius with 103,800, John Juanda with 89,300, and Dario Sammartino with 86,500.

All told, there are 989 survivors who will start Day 2, plus any that enter before the start of play. The cards are scheduled to be in the air at 12 p.m. local time with the blinds at 400/800/100. Only six 75-minute levels are on the schedule for today, meaning play should end around 8:15 p.m. local time.

As always, you can stay tuned right here to PokerNews for continued coverage of the tournament as the quest for the next EPT champion unfolds.
