Davies Eliminated by Smith

Level 8 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Seth Davies
Seth Davies

Down to the last 75,500, Seth Davies open-shoved on the button and Dan Smith in the small blind asked for a count. Smith then announced all in himself, which forced out Cary Katz in the big blind.

Seth Davies: {A-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}
Dan Smith: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

The {9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} flop gave Smith top set and Davies was already on the way out of his chair. However, the magical {3-Diamonds} on the turn gave him a massive sweat. It wouldn't last, as the {K-Hearts} river was a blank and Davies was eliminated early into the final level of Day 1. He immediately re-entered and drew the exact same seat for the second attempt.

Chan Eliminated by Peters

Level 8 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Wai Leong Chan
Wai Leong Chan

David Peters opened to 11,000 from the button. Sergio Aido called on the button and Wai Leong Chan defended his big blind. The {2-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{j-Hearts} flop checked to Aido who bet 14,000.

Chan then raised all in for 112,000 and Peters called. Aido got out of the way and the cards were turned over.

Wai Leong Chan: {j-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
David Peters: {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

Chan was dominated, and couldn't hit on the {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds} run out and he was eliminated.

Khangah Busts Sammartino; Jumps Above a Million

Level 8 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Dario Sammartino
Dario Sammartino

A raise by Dario Sammartino in late position resulted in a three-bet to 29,000 by Ahadpur Khangah in the big blind and Sammartino called. The {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop was checked through and Khangah bet the {4-Diamonds} turn for 40,000, Sammartino called.

On the {9-Spades} river, Khangah moved all in and Sammartino, who appeared to have 165,000 behind, called. Khangah showed {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for two pair on the river and Sammartino held {K-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for flopped two pair that were no longer good.

Fatehi Ousted in Straight-Over-Straight Setup

Level 8 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Ali Reza Fatehi
Ali Reza Fatehi

A min-raised pot to the {J-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} flop was checked by Setz Davies in the under-the-gun position, Ali Reza Fatehi on the button and Linus Loeliger in the small blind. The {9-Diamonds} fell on the turn and action checked to Davies, who bet 27,000. Fatehi called and Loeliger raised it up to 108,000.

That's when things got even more tricky, as Fatehi announced an all in out of turn and the floorman was called. The options remained the same for Davies, and if he called, the all in of Fatehi was binding. That's exactly that happened, and Fatehi was all in for 227,000. Loeliger folded and Davies snap-called.

Ali Reza Fatehi: {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Seth Davies: {Q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}

The {3-Hearts} on the river was insignificant, as Davies had the nut straight, and Fatehi was ousted just before bagging and tagging.

Ahadpur Khangah Leads After PokerStars EPT Barcelona €100,000 Super High Roller Day 1

Level 8 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Ahadpur Khangah

The 2018 PokerStars European Poker Tour Barcelona €100,000 Super High Roller field raced its way through eight 60-minute levels, and at the end of it, just 28 players out of 44 entries will advance to Day 2.

It looked like more would advance, but the late eliminations of Ali Reza Fatehi, Nick Petrangelo - one of two players to bust twice today - and Spaniard Adrian Mateos meant that just 28 will be coming back tomorrow.

Dario Sammartino, Wai Leong Chan and Luc Greenwood were the only other three players to bust on Day 2 and not re-enter, as the likes of Nick Petrangelo, Timothy Adams, Linus Loeliger, David Peters, Christoph Vogelsang and Seth Davies all jumped straight back in.

The number at the start of Day 2 will undoubtedly grow, as certain players take advantage of late registration being open until the start of Day 2, but several players have already assured themselves good stacks at the end of Day 1.

The chip leader heading into Day 2 is Ahadpur Khangah who, although coughing and spluttering off the tables, was the exact opposite when it came to the poker, bagging well in excess of one million chips with 1,155,000.

He was boosted by the elimination of Dario Sammartino who flopped two pair in a hand against Khangah. Unfortunately for him, Khangah rivered a better two pair and shoved into the Italian, who called and was eliminated.

Other big stacks include Pascal LeFrancois (647,000), David Peters (638,000), Seth Davies (622,000), Timothy Adams (587,000), Jan-Eric Schwippert (545,000) and Patrik Antonius (517,000). These are the only players who bagged at least two starting stacks.

Khangah will start Day 2 at 12:30 local time at Casino Barcelona with the chip lead, but with several other big names expected to join the field he might be hard-pushed to hold onto that!

Stay tuned to PokerNews for all the live updates.
