Kanit Scores Big Double Through Piroddi

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante

On a {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{7-Spades} turn, Federico Piroddi was first to act, and with 25,000 in the middle he bet a hefty 55,000. Mustapha Kanit used up a timebank before moving all in for 41,600. Ivan Luca had less than that but folded.

Kanit showed {5-Clubs}{5-Hearts} for a set, while Piroddi held {a-Clubs}{5-Spades} for two pair. The river was the {7-Hearts} improving the Italian to a full house, and Kanit doubled up.

Battle of the Ferreiras

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante

Jean Ferreira from Canada and Rui Neves Ferreira from Portugal were involved into a bigger pot just before the end of the level and headed to a {10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{J-Clubs} turn, which the latter checked out of the big blind. Ferreira bet 10,000 and Neves Ferreira called to see the {8-Spades} on the river, which he checked.

Ferreira now made it 35,000 to go, which covered the remaining stack of his opponent, and ultimately resulted in a fold.

Jans Arends has become the third player to enter the tournament for a second time while Dan Smith, Imad Derwiche and David Peters are all on their first bullet for the day.

Derwiche Bemused at Win With Eight-High

Level 5 : 200/500, 500 ante

Imad Derwiche opened to 1,100 and Jean-Noel Thorel three-bet to 3,300. Derwiche called and check-called 6,000 on the {3-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} flop.

The turn was the {k-Hearts} and Derwiche check-called 10,500. The river was the {q-Spades} and both players checked.

Derwiche rolled his eyes and lifted his cards up before tabling {7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} for eight-high. Thorel looked up before throwing his cards face down into the muck.

There was a moment of confusion as the dealer started to shuffle the cards, with Derwiche quickly gathering in his chips.

"He had eight-high," a tablemate said to Thorel, and all the Frenchman could do is shake his head.

Talvitie Jams Into Arends

Level 5 : 200/500, 500 ante
Jans Arends
Jans Arends

Until the {J-Spades}{8-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop a pot of 23,000 had already emerged and Elias Talvitie checked out of the small blind. Jans Arends bet 5,500, which Talvitie called. The {9-Clubs} on the turn was checked through and the {8-Hearts} appeared on the river. Talvitie quickly grabbed his big chip denominations to put Arends at risk, the Dutchman folded.

Gary Hasson has entered recently and is off to a good start on his first entry. He was involved in a hand just now with Fahredin Mustafov and both checked the ¢KdQs10dKs] turn. Hasson also checked the {10-Clubs} on the river and called a bet of 1,500 by Mustafov, who was about to muck his cards. Hasson flipped over {A-Spades}{4-Diamonds} for two pair with an ace kicker and that won the pot.

Troyanovskiy Doubles; Hallaert Leaves Kurganov Short

Level 5 : 200/500, 500 ante
Igor Kurganov
Igor Kurganov

After a flop of {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Hearts}, Vladimir Troyanovskiy was all in and at risk with the {K-Clubs}{9-Clubs} against Ben Heath with {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts}. The {6-Diamonds} turn and the {6-Hearts} river brought no change and Troyanovskiy doubled for 35,400.

One table over, PokerStars Team Pro Igor Kurganov raised to 1,100 and Kenny Hallaert in the big blind three-bet to 4,000. Kurganov smiled and stared over at his opponent before tossing in calling chips. The flop brought {6-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades} and Hallaert continued for 2,700, which Kurganov called.

On the {6-Clubs} turn, both players checked and Hallaert bet the {Q-Hearts} river for 20,000. Kurganov had fewer chips than that behind and folded.
