Day 3 Started

Day 3 of the Main Event Kicks off at Noon Today

Monte Carlo
Monte Carlo

Welcome back to Day 3 of the flagship event of the 2019 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo®Casino European Poker Tour (EPT), the Main Event. The pace was fast and furious yesterday, with a 385-strong field reduced to just 107 over seven and a half hours of play at the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort.

Each remaining player is guaranteed to take home at least €9,660 but it is fair to assume that they will all have their eyes on the top spot, with €827,700 up for grabs for 1st place, as well as the title, the trophy and a place in the EPT record books. First though, they will have to catch up with Wiktor Malinowski (769,000) and Julien Martini (735,000), who start today in pole position.

Though ahead of the pack when the claxon sounds in about an hour, Malinowski and Martini will face stiff competition from the likes of Seth Davies (684,000), James Romero (630,000), Pablo Melogno (607,000), Ludovic Geilich (606,000), Paul Michaelis (573,000) and Fionn Macnamara (572,000), who all feature in the top ten. On top of that Timothy Adams, Christoph Vogelsang, Patrik Antonius, Manig Loeser and Ryan Riess are just some of the poker heavyweights who are also still in contention.

Play will resume at Level 16, with blinds at 2,000/5,000 and a big blind ante of 5,000. There are at least five levels on the schedule for today, each lasting 90 minutes. There will be a 20-minute break at the end of each level and it is yet to be confirmed whether there will be a dinner break.

The PokerNews live reporting team will provide live updates from start to finish. The feature table will run with cards-up coverage on YouTube and Twitch, with a security delay of 30 minutes.

Martirosian Doubles Through Pecheux

Artur Martirosian

Artur Martirosian started the day with just six big blinds and he just doubled his stack in the second hand of the day. He saw Erwann Pecheux raise from the button to 11,000 and he pushed his last 20,000 to the middle from the small blind. The player in the big blind got out of the way and Pecheux called.

Artur Martirosian: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Erwann Pecheux: {10-Hearts}{9-Spades}

The board ran out {5-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{q-Clubs} and Martirosian secured a much needed double up to start the day.

''All-in table 2'' was announced and Ermo Kosk sat in the small blind with {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} and it was Michel Bouskila who was at risk in the big blind with {a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. Bouskila had 112,000 and Kosk had just 1,000 more.

The board fell {9-Hearts}{6-Spades}{3-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{a-Spades} and Kosk won the hand because of the king as a kicker.

Battle of the Big Stacks

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante

Ami Barer opened the betting to 12000 and Wiktor Malinowski and Melika Razavi defended the small and big blinds respectively.

On the {10-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} flop it was checked to Barer who continued for 22,000. Malinowski called and Razavi moved out of the way. The turn saw the {7-Clubs} land on the board and both players checked.

The final card out was the {8-Spades} and Malinowski lead for 23,000. Barer raised it up to 85000 and got a fold from his opponent, meaning Barer moves up whilst Malinowski drops a little.
