Norden Chips Up Against Refos

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

Another early big pot was brewing and this time it was Alexander Norden and Raoul Refos that were at it. They had created a pot of 9,000 and the board showed {9-Spades}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}. Norden made it 5,800 to go and that ended up winning the pot without any showdown, as Refos reluctantly folded.

A Table Filled With Notables

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

Table 34 seems to be one to watch as it features several notables right off the bat. Among others, Thomas Pettersson, Julien Martini, Harry Ross, 2019 EPT National Barcelona winner Markku Koplimaa and 2017 PokerStars Championship Barcelona winner Sebastian Sorensson can be found there.

Martini and Ross have some history from the 2019 World Series of Poker Europe not long ago and the former already lost a chunk.

Just now, Koplimaa opened to 400 in the small blind and Sorensson called from the big blind. The flop of {8-Clubs}{5-Spades}{5-Diamonds} brought a continuation bet worth 300 and Sorensson called. After the {j-Diamonds} turn, Koplimaa check-called a bet of 600 and they checked the {10-Hearts} on the river.

Koplimaa tabled {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for tens and eights, which won the pot.

It Is Always Coming Seven

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

There were 7,000 in the middle and the completed board showed {5-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for a six-high straight on the board. The action checked to Uri Reichenstein and he made it 7,000 to go. His sole remaining opponent double-checked the bet size with the dealer an opted to fold.

"Seven thousand for a seven?" Reichenstein was asked and he replied "seven for a seven."

Ivarsson Makes the Right Call

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante
Alexander Ivarsson
Alexander Ivarsson

Vlada Stojanovic raised from the hijack and Tony Tran three-bet on the button. Alexander Ivarsson had four-bet in the big blind and Tran was the only one to make the call.

The flop came {j-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{4-Spades}, Ivarsson continued with a bet which Tran called.

They both checked through the {4-Hearts} on the turn to the {4-Diamonds} on the river. Ivarsson checked and Tran bet 5,000. Ivarsson tanked for a while until the clock was called on him. The floor came over, Ivarsson made the call before any countdown could happen. Tran tabled {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} to play the board but Ivarsson held {k-Clubs}{q-Spades} for the quads on the board with the king-kicker.

Carbone Rising Early On

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

Giuseppe Carbone has some notables on his table such as Jorma Nuutinen, Danilo Velasevic and Alexandre Viard. Carbone has been chipping up early when he bet the {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} flop for 500 and Viard check-called. They both checked the {10-Clubs} on the turn and Viard led the {q-Clubs} river for 1,100.

Carbone raised it up to 2,600 and Viard folded after some short consideration.

Excellent Start for Blain

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante
Dermot Blain
Dermot Blain

The second player to bust on Day 1b was Tzur Levy and he sent his chips over to Dermot Blain. The Irishman just claimed another decent pot to become the early frontrunner as he cut the stack of Anton Siden into nearly half.

Picking up the action on the {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{7-Hearts} turn, Blain in the big blind made it 1,000 to go and Siden in the cutoff raised it up to 4,000, which Blain called. After the {8-Spades} river, Blain checked and Siden now made it 8,000 to go. Blain tossed in a raise to 40,000, which had Siden's remaining stack covered by far, and that ended up forcing a fold.
