25 Remain in EPT London Main Event as Hall of Famer Seidel Chases Triple Crown

Level 20 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

Another day of action in the PokerStars European Poker Tour London £5,300 EPT Main Event wrapped up after five levels of play and saw Poker Hall of Famer Erik Seidel bagging 955,000 chips among the 25 remaining players.

The legendary Seidel, who had a red-hot run at EPT Barcelona this summer that included a second-place finish in the €100K Super High Roller for €1,286,490, is chasing a Triple Crown with nine World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets and a WPT (World Poker Tour) on his poker resume.

Seidel, who ended the day in spectacular fashion with a set-over-set double up through Day 2 chip leader Julien Sitbon, will have his work cut out for him as there were plenty of other top crushers who survived Day 3, including fellow high-rollers Ben Heath and Marton Czuczor, as well as EPT London Ladies Event champ Jessica Pilkington and £2,200 UKIPT High Roller runner-up Roman Hrabec, who bagged the chip lead with a stack of 1,900,000.

Plenty of Big Names Fall During Day 3

The field of 80 entries that started the day steadily dwindled down as plenty of big names dropped out of the competition.

Team PokerStars Pro Ramon Colillas was eliminated early in the day in a six-bet pot where his pocket jacks were pipped by the Ladies of Conor Beresford, who himself busted later in the evening when his pocket tens couldn't survive a flip against the ace-queen of Benjamin Pollak.

The luscious-locked Beresford has had an impressive series that included a runner-up finish in the £1,100 UKIPT Main Event to none other than WSOP Main Event champion Martin Jacobson, who joined the Brit in the Day 3 field and before being eliminated in a straight versus straight cooler as the night wound down.

Other big names who fell during Day 3 include Adrian Mateos, Gianluca Speranza and Day 1 chips leaders Ole Schemion, Luis Faria and Henrik Hecklen, who is fresh off a victory in the £50,000 EPT London Super High Roller for £652,700.

Day 4 will commence on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at noon. The top prize of £664,400 awaits the winner in the six-day tournament that is slated to wrap up on Oct. 28.

Stay tuned as the PokerNews live reporting team is close by and ready to report on the rest of the event ahead of the crowning of the first EPT London Main Event champion in eight years. Check out the live reporting team's coverage of other EPT London events in the meantime.

Seidel Doubles with Set Over Set

Level 20 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Erik Seidel
Erik Seidel

Erik Seidel opened to 27,000 on the button and Julien Sitbon defended the big blind.

"I just want to be in the chip race," Seidel joked, as the T-1,000 chips were being raced off soon and the dealer gave him three T-1,000 chips as change.

The dealer fanned out the {a-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop and Sitbon checked. Seidel bet 25,000 and Sitbon check-raised to 65,000. Seidel called.

The {6-Hearts} landed on the turn and Sitbon bet 130,000. Seidel called.

The {k-Diamonds} completed the board and Sitbon moved all in, covering Seidel's 248,000 remaining chips. Seidel quickly called.

Sitbon tabled {2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} for a flopped set, but Seidel revealed {6-Spades}{6-Clubs} for a superior turned set, and the Poker Hall of Famer secured the double on one of the last hands of the night to near a million in chips.

Karam Shoves Into Kings

Ramzi Karam

Ramzi Karam opened on the button and was three-bet by Ambrose Ng in the big blind. Karam then four-bet shoved, and Ng quickly made the call.

Ramzi Karam: {k-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Ambrose Ng: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

Karam was dominated as the cards were tabled, and the {a-Hearts}{8-Spades}{8-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} runout changed nothing. A quick count by the dealer confirmed that Ng was the larger stack, and Karam's tournament run came to an end.

Paul Fontan Castrillon

Shortly after losing a flip to Jamie Flynn for the majority of his stack, Paul Fontan Castrillon had gotten the rest of his short stack in from the big blind and was at risk against Flynn in the hijack.

Paul Fontan Castrillon: {q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Jamie Flynn: {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

The {8-Spades}{6-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} board ran out all low cards and Castrillon made his exit from the tournament.

Jacobson Falls Straight Over Straight

Level 20 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Martin Jacobson
Martin Jacobson

Benjamin Pollak opened to 25,000 from under the gun and found two callers in Martin Jacobson on the button and Nicolas Vayssieres in the small blind.

Pollak and Vayssieres checked the {10-Clubs}{9-Spades}{7-Spades} flop, with Jacobson firing 33,000. Vayssieres called while Pollak folded, leaving the hand heads up to the {6-Diamonds} turn. Both players then checked to the {8-Diamonds} river, where Vayssieres led out for 101,000.

Jacobson took a moment before announcing a raise to 350,000, representing more than half of his remaining stack. Vayssieres then raised the rest, putting the decision back on Jacobson with a straight on the board.

After using all three of his remaining time banks, Jacobson tossed in the call and turned over {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for a jack-high straight. Vayssieres quickly revealed {q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} for a queen-high straight, and Jacobson wished everyone good luck on his way to the payout desk.

Cooler Freezes Liperis

Level 20 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Yiannis Liperis
Yiannis Liperis

In a three-way pot on a flop of {10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{a-Hearts}, Yiannis Liperis checked and Julien Sitbon also checked, while Daewoong Song song bet 35,000.

Liperis check-raised all in for around 200,000 and Sitbon asked the dealer for a count but folded before he could provide one. Song called without needing a count.

Yiannis Liperis: {a-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
Daewoong Song: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}

Liperis was on the wrong end of the cooler with two pair against the set of Song. He needed to hit an ace to stay alive and couldn't do so as the board finished out {7-Clubs}{9-Spades}.

Sitbon told the table he folded pocket jacks.

Song Spikes to Triple

Level 20 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Daewoong Song
Daewoong Song

Yiannis Liperis opened to 24,000 from under the gun, Daewoong Song three-bet in the cutoff, and Thomas Hueber called on the button. Liperis got his 230,000 chips in, Song got his 127,000 chips in, and Hueber called.

Daewoong Song: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Yiannis Liperis: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}
Thomas Hueber: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

It was a huge cooler with Liperis likely to be on the right side of it, but the {k-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{9-Spades} flop vaulted Song into the lead. The {2-Hearts} and {2-Spades} completed the board to secure the fortunate triple for the South Korean player, while Liperis took the side pot and only lost a small amount.

Pollak Knocks Out Beresford

Level 19 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Conor Beresford
Conor Beresford

Benjamin Pollak raised to 22,000 from early position to see Roman Hrabec, Martin Jacobson and Jamie Flynn call. Conor Beresford then moved all in from the big blind for 410,000.

Pollak used three time cards before also moving all in, and the rest of the table folded leaving Beresford at risk.

Conor Beresford: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Benjamin Pollak: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}

Beresford was flipping with his pocket pair, and Pollak picked up a flush draw on the {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop. The turn {5-Spades} completed Pollak's flush, and Beresford bricked the {7-Clubs} to take the field to the final 30.

Ian Hamilton
Ian Hamilton

Ian Hamilton raised to 20,000 from middle position and was called by Jordi Romero to his left. Hamilton checked the {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop and Romero slid out a bet of 35,000.

Hamilton then check-raised to 125,000 and was called to see the {k-Spades} turn before leading out for 175,000 chips. Romero called and fired 85,000 on the river {9-Hearts} before Hamilton check-raised to 500,000.

Romero instantly slid two time cards to the dealer as he pondered his decision, eventually using a third before making the fold. Hamilton slid his cards forward and took down a sizeable pot.
