Naveiro, Sellam Bag Big as 149 Advance After Day 1c in €1,100 FPS Main Event

Another flight of the €1,100 FPS Main Event as part of PokerStars EPT presented by Monte-Carlo Casino® wrapped up early Friday morning as Day 1c came to an end. The day began with 991 runners, making it the biggest by far of the four flights, and saw 149 advancing after the elimination Adrian-Remus Constantin, whose king-jack couldn't hold up against the queen-ten of Lampros Vlachos.

The four starting flights drew 2,138 players for a total prize pool of €2,052,480. Andre von Ins was close to bubbling when his pocket sevens were in bad shape against the tens of Jean-David Bensemhoun, but a flopped full house meant the Swiss player would advance with the others to Day 2.

Spain's Inigo Naveiro bagged the Day 1c chip lead with a stack of 684,000 and is followed closely by France's Rubens Sellam (503,000) and Yannick Galley (492,000), as well as Bulgaria's Stefan Dimitrov (478,000) and China's Biao Ding (470,000).

There were plenty of notables in the Day 1c field who made it to bag-and-tag hour, including bestselling poker author Maria Konnikova, 2023 PSPC champion Aliaksandr Shylko and Kayhan Mokri, who just hours before finished 11th in €10,200 Mystery Bounty for €8,700.

Others who advanced to Day 2 include Gianluca Speranza, Danut Chisu, Leonardo Parmiggiani, Dinesh Alt and Boris Kolev. They will compete on Friday against Day 1a and 1b chip leaders Adrian Chabbi and Recep Aydemir and whoever bags the chip lead in Day 1d, as well as the rest of those who bagged.

Day 2 will see each of the players from the three starting flights returning at noon local time. Action will kick off on Level 16 with blinds of 2,000/5,000/5,000 and all players will be in the money. Payout information will be made available at the start of the day.

"Unbelievable": Geller's Set No Good as Zaffagnini Binks Gutshot

Maya Geller was all in against Umberto Zaffagnini from a few seats over, who had her covered.

It looked like Geller would survive the flip as the flop of Q♠6♠9♥ kept her eights ahead and the 8♠ turn improved her to a set to have Zaffagnini drawing to a gutshot straight and backdoor flush. But the dealer then put down the 10♥ to give him the straight and mark Geller's elimination.

"Unbelievable," Geller sighed as she left the table.

Geller is the spouse of Finnish poker legend Patrik Antonius, who appeared on the most recent episode of the PokerNews Podcast.

Vlachos Min-Check-Raises Kebe

Jimmy Kebe opened to 6,000 in the cutoff and Andreas Vlachos defended out of the small blind.

Vlachos checked on the flop of Q♣Q♠5♦ and Kebe continued for 4,000. Vlachos responded with a small check-raise to 8,000 and Kebe called.

The turn brought the 10♦ and Kebe sized up to 25,000. Vlachos folded without a fight.

State Scores Double Off Kassouf

The action was picked up in a pot of roughly 90,000 on a completed board showing A♦4♠3♦K♠5♥. William Kassouf was deep in the tank on the button after Adrian State moved all in for 31,500 from the small blind.

"You have a missed flush draw or like ace-deuce here," said Kassouf as he asked the dealer to spread the pot.

After close to two minutes, a player at the table called the clock and Kassouf was given 30 more seconds to act. As the clock hit two seconds, Kassouf tossed in chips for the call. State rolled over A♠2♠ for the rivered straight and the exact hand Kassouf predicted.

"I knew it had to be that or missed diamonds," said Kassouf as he shook his head and recounted his stack.

Belea Puts Kassouf To The Test

William Kassouf opened to 3,500 from early position and it folded to Razvan Belea in the cutoff who three-bet to 9,100. The rest of the table got out of the way and Kassouf made the call.

The flop fanned out K♣4♥3♦ and Kassouf checked to Belea who continued for 3,400. Kassouf took a moment before sliding forward a check-raise to 15,400.

"I've got king-queen. If you have ace-king or aces you're ahead. If not I have you beat," said Kassouf just before Belea made the call.

The 8♦ hit the turn and Kassouf kept up the aggression with a bet of 25,000, which again Belea called.

On the 10♥ river Kassouf elected on a check over to Belea.

"Why did you check now?" said Belea as he pondered his decision.

"I only get called by better if I shove. I have king-queen I told you," replied Kassouf.

Belea eventually moved a stack of chips forward and announced all in, covering the roughly 35,000 remaining for Kassouf, who went deep in the tank.

"I can't beat anything you would shove with. You must have me beat right?" asked Kassouf.

After close to a minute of thought, Kassouf eventually made the fold and Belea tabled A♥A♠ to show Kassouf he made a good fold.

"That's what I put you on," said Kassouf as Belea stacked up his newly acquired chips and jumped into the chip lead.

Medjahed Goes Runner-Runner to Eliminate Michelet

Abdelkader Medjahed opened from under the gun and Nelson Michelet three-bet jammed a stack of 17,000 from the small blind. Medjahed called with a bigger stack.

Michelet stood up from his seat anticipating a bustout, but sat back down when the dealer fanned the flop of 7♣J♦9♥ to give him the nut straight and have Medjahed drawing to just a runner-runner full house or quads.

That's exactly what happened as the dealer first put down the 3♥ on the turn and then the J♠ on the river to send Michelet to the rail in an unbelievable fashion. A look at a poker odds calculator shows that Medjahed was less than 3% to win the hand once the flop came down.

Caza Hides and Takes a Pot

Marco Caza opened to 2,200 from under the gun and Samuel Bifarella gave him a stare from the next seat, leading Caza to jokingly hide his face beneath his shirt. Bifarella called, as did Ronald Steinmetz on the button and the player in the big blind.

The big blind checked on the Q♣6♥J♠ flop and Caza continued for 4,700. Only Steinmetz called. Caza then sized up to 6,500 on the K♠ turn, which was enough to bring a fold from his opponent.

State Gets Max Value On River In Multi-Way Pot

Adrian State opened to 2,000 from middle position and Andreas Moser in the cutoff, Alexandru Boboc in the small blind and Jerome Zerbib in the big blind all made the call.

The flop fanned out J♥9♣3♠ and action checked to State who continued for 2,500, which Moser and Zerbib came along. On the K♣ turn Zerbib checked again and State kept up the aggression with a bet of 7,500, which only Moser called.

The 3♣ completed the board and State took a moment before sliding in 14,400, leaving only 1,000 behind and Moser went deep in the tank.

After close to a minute of thought, Moser tossed in the chips for a call and State tabled K♠Q♠ for top pair. Moser rechecked his cards and tossed them into the muck as the dealer sent State the sizable pot.

Kassouf Can't Find The Last Barrel

In a heads-up pot with just over 17,000 in the middle on a board showing J♥8♠7♦4♦, William Kassouf fired from early position with a sizing of 15,000 and Francesco Di Profio made the call on the button.

The K♥ completed the board and Kassouf checked over to Di Profio who after a moment tapped the table to check back. Kassouf was hesitant to show his hand but eventually rolled over 10♦6♦ for a missed straight and flush draw. Di Profio tabled 7♣5♣ for a pair of sevens to scoop the pot.

"I thought you slow played kings or something. I thought you had a better hand," said Kassouf as he was in disbelief of the hand Di Profio held.

"It's PokerStars, what do you expect?" replied Di Profio jokingly while he collected the sizable pot.

Rocha Gets Run Over By Labat's Wheel

Lucas Rocha raised to 1,700 in the small blind and Antoine Labat three-bet to 5,300 in the big blind. Rocha called as another player joked that there were "too many pros at this table."

Rocha checked on the flop of 3♣9♥2♥ and Labat continued for 4,500. Rocha called. Rocha checked again on the 4♠ turn and Labat bet 6,000. Rocha went in the tank and called.

Rocha checked a third time on the 2♦ river and Labat emptied the clip by moving all in for 13,700. Rocha went back in the tank and eventually called. Labat tabled A♣5♥ for a Wheel and Rocha was forced to show A♥10♣ for ace-high.
