Sebastien Le Baron raised and Arthur Thiriat then pushed forward 21,000 for a three-bet. Le Baron slid forward a stack of chips for slightly more than the three-bet and already opened his A♣K♥, thinking Thiriat was all-in.
However, Thiriat had 700 chips behind and the floor was called. It was ruled as just a call by Le Baron, and they got it in after the J♥6♥3♥ flop. Thiriat tabled the A♦3♣ and they somehow chopped after the 6♦ turn as well as J♠ river runout.
Harpreet Gill raised and picked up a call before Malcolm Franchi three-bet from the small blind for 7,000. Gill then moved all in for 55,500. Franchi weighed it up, apologizing to the table as he agonized over the decision.
"You never know, you might get lucky," said Gill as Franchi gathered his chips.
Upon hearing that, Franchi quickly folded and Gill tabled pocket kings.
"Did you have queens?" asked Gill, But Franchi would not show.
Julien Labussiere open-jammed from an early position for the last 18,400 and was called by Sal Al Fakih in the big blind.
Julien Labussiere: K♣Q♠
Sal Al Fakih: 10♥10♠
The K♥J♠8♣6♣Q♥ board gave Labussiere two pair and Al Fakih was left with a mere 12 blinds, which vanished before their table broke.
Omar Lakhdari raised to 2,500 from the cutoff and Brandon Sheils three-bet jammed for his last 17,200, from the small blind. "Vamos!" Lakhdari announced as he decided to call.
Brandon Sheils: Q♦10♦
Omar Lakhdari: A♥9♣
The board ran out 8♠3♣4♠10♥9♦; Sheils peeled the perfect turn to pull ahead, ultimately doubling him up.
Last year's final tablist Denzel Spekman was right next to the defending champion Razvan Belea and shipped his shorter stack in with the A♦Q♦. Jorge Ufano happily called with the A♠A♥ and had little to fear on the Q♣6♣4♠9♣8♣ board.
"Easy game," Belea joked to the Spaniard.
Younes Hammouchi opened to 2,000 from the cutoff and was three-bet to 5,500 by Adrian Chabbi on the button. Action folded back around to Hammouchi, who called.
Chabbi proceeded to call bets from Hammouchi, first for 4,700 on the 2♠K♦J♦ flop, then for 10,800 on the 4♣ turn, and finally for 12,000 on the 4♥ river.
Hammouchi motioned that Chabbi was good, but Chabbi didn't want to show unless Hammouchi showed fist. Hammouchi opted to muck and Chabbi followed suit before collecting the pot.
Action was on the turn on a board of 4♦10♦5♦Q♠ and Benoit Grobocopatel was all in against Xavier Cortazar Vidal, who had slightly more chips as players revealed their hands.
Vidal showed Q♥Q♦ for a set of queens. However, Grobocopatel turned over A♦K♦ for a flopped flush.
The river came a blank, the 7♥, and Grobocopatel held to win the pot and double his stack. Vidal was left short stacked with just a few big blinds.
The remaining 499 players in Day 1b have been sent on their last 20-minute break of the day. Upon their return, they will play two more hour-long levels before bagging for the night.
