Nemeth Storms Into Lead in €10,200 Mystery Bounty, Astedt Bags in Second

Level 10 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Andras Nemeth
Andras Nemeth

It was a quiet start in the €10,200 Mystery Bounty event, just nine players seated at the start of the event. That field steadily grew to 36 entries made up of the usual suspects, experienced high rollers taking their first shot in the 2024 edition of the PokerStars European Poker Tour Prague, running at the Hilton Hotel.

After ten 30-minute levels of play, only 19 of those players remained. Andras Nemeth of Hungary sits at the top of the pack after making a huge run up during the last few levels of play.

By the end of the second break, Nemath was in fifth place with a touch over 200,000. He went on to near-triple his stack and bag in first place with 616,000.

As it stands, his closest competitor is Niklas Astedt, a player who needs no introduction. He finished the day in second place with 323,000 in chips.

Maksim Vaskresenski, in third place, is the only other player to bag with over 300,000, while Lander Lijo and Thomas Santerne in third and fourth, respectively, finished with a little under that benchmark.

It may seem like Nemath is running away with it, but there's only a single double up between him and his nearest rivals, all of who are very capable players. There's all to play for on Day 2, that's for sure.

After a delayed start, players trickled in during the first few levels of play. Lander Lijo took an early lead when he got his kings in good against Ryan Mandara's queens.

Teun Mulder, Claas Segebrecht and Paul Lagan were among the early bustouts, the latter running into pocket aces. Mulder fired his second bullet, but it wasn't his day and he ran into Astedt's aces during Level 5 to hit the rail.

By the end of the second break, with just three short levels left to play, Elias Suhonen took the chip lead, while Astedt was left with less than a starting stack after his bluff was called by Roman Hrabec.

Astedt ran hot during the last few levels and he bagged in second. Not as hot as Nemeth, however, who managed to triple his stack following the final break of the day to bag up in first place, ready to return as the Day 2 chip leader.

Day 2 will resume at noon local time with blinds on 2,000/5,000 with a 5,000 big blind ante. With late registration still open until the start of the day, it's expected that quite a few more players will join the field, further inflating the prize pool, which currently stands at €168,840 plus bounties.

The full prize pool, payouts and bounty prizes will all be announced tomorrow, with bounties coming into play at the start of Level 13.

Stay tuned to PokerNews for live updates straight from the tournament floor as the event plays down to a winner.

Vlad Martynenko
Vlad Martynenko

Vladyslav Martynenko raised to 6,000 from middle position and Thomas Santerne three-bet to 16,000 from the big blind. Martynenko then moved all in and Santerne quickly called with the bigger stack. Players flipped their cards.

Thomas Santerne: KK

The board ran out 828KQ and Santerne further improved to kings-full. He won the pot and Martynenko was eliminated during the final level of the day.

Jeremie Zouari, Max Neugebauer, and Ricardo Caridade have also recently busted, leaving 20 players in the field.

Ogita Rivers Straight to Crack Kings

Level 9 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Daisuke Ogita
Daisuke Ogita

Following an open-raise from Juho Ruutari, Daisuke Ogita moved all in from the button for 66,500. Ricardo Caridade then moved all in over the top for 86,000 from the big blind. Ruutari folded, leaving two players to turn their cards, with Ogita at risk.

Daisuke Ogita: 66 All in
Ricardo Caridade: KK

Ogita was in serious trouble and needed to find help as the board ran out 25734 to give him an unlikely straight on the river. Ogita doubled up his stack and Caridade was left short with around 7,500.

It looked like Caridade would be heading for the exit as he found himself pot committed in the small blind the next hand, but he managed to double his short stack to give himself a chance to chip back up.

Meanwhile, Nikita Kuznetsov has joined the tournament with just a couple of levels left to play on Day 1.

Mulder Runs Into Astedt's Aces

Level 5 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Teun Mulder
Teun Mulder

It's not Teun Mulder's day today as he was sent to the rail for the second time within the first five levels.

Mulder had all his chips in the middle, a little under 50,000, against Niklas Astedt, who had him well covered as players flipped their cards.

Teun Mulder: AQ All in
Niklas Astedt: AA

Mulder was drawing very thin as the board ran out 95989 and was drawing dead by the turn. Astedt held with his pocket aces to win the pot, while Mulder was eliminated. After firing his only reentry, Mulder is well and truly out of the event.

Meanwhile, Wouter Beltz has joined the game.

Lagan Runs Into Aces

Level 4 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Paul Lagan
Paul Lagan

Paul Lagan shoved all in from under the gun for 21,500 on what was a six-handed table. Sonny Franco asked how much before placing in a call from the button. The rest of the table folded to leave two players to flip their cards, with Lagan at risk.

Paul Lagan: A7 All in
Sonny Franco: AA

Lagan sighed as he saw what he was up against. He did find a glimmer of hope as the flop came 532 to give him the nut flush draw. That hope faded as the turn came the K and river the J. Franco held with his aces. He won the pot and Lagan was eliminated.

Meanwhile, Mulder has jumped back into the competition after busting out moments before.

Lijo Takes Lead as Mandara Runs Queens Into Kings

Level 3 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Lander Lijo
Lander Lijo

Sitting in late position, Lander Lijo got into a preflop raising battle with Ryan Mandara, who had him covered from the button. Mandara made the last push and Lijo called off his stack for 107,000. He was at risk as players flipped their cards.

It was a cooler for Mandara and he found no help as the board ran out J5AJ2. Lijo held with his pocket kings to score a huge double up, giving him the chip lead.

€10,200 Mystery Bounty Event Offers First Chance for High Rollers to Pick Up a Trophy

Oleg Vasylchenko
Oleg Vasylchenko

The PokerStars European Poker Tour, running at the Hilton Prague, is now underway in the beautiful, historic city of Prague. One of the first events on the schedule is the €10,200 Mystery Bounty event, which tends to attract a small, yet talented field of players who are looking for an early victory and a coveted spade trophy.

In exchange for the entry fee, players begin with starting stacks of 100,000. Blind levels start at 500/1,000 with a 1,000 big blind ante, which makes for stacks that are 100 big blinds deep as the tournament commences.

Blind levels increase every 30 minutes, with a 20-minute break scheduled at the end of Level 4 and Level 8. Day 1 will run for 10 Levels and late registration remains open until the start of Day 2. Players can take a single re-entry during the course of the event.

A shot clock will be implemented from the start, which grants players 15 seconds to act on their first decision and 30 seconds thereafter. Everyone starts with four time-bank cards and gains an additional time-bank after each odd level.

Half of the entry fee, €5,000, goes towards the bounty prize pool. Bounties come into play at the start of Level 13 on Day 2.

Last year's winner was Oleg Vasylchenko, who overcame a field of 56 entries for his first EPT title following a heads-up deal with Enrico Camosci. Vasylchenko claimed €74,673 for first place along with €80,000 in bounties, adding up to a grand total of €154,673.
