Eliminations Before the Break

Players are on a half-hour break, but the two hands before saw a rash of eliminations. First, Erik Friberg scooped a monster pot when he flat-called an all-in push from a small stack in early position. Tony Phillips on the big blind then reraised all in for his remaining 65,000 and Friberg called.

Small stack: {K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}
Erik Friberg: {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}
Tony Phillips: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}

The aces held and Friberg scooped a big pot.

Then Irish Open champion Marty Smyth was knocked out. UTG player minimum-raised, and Smyth and another player called.

On a flop of {9-Spades}{2-Spades}{4-Diamonds}, and with 20,000 already in the pot, the initial raiser led out with 16,000, and the mid-position caller moved all in with {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}. Smyth reluctantly made a value call with {A-Hearts}{3-Spades} for his last 12,000 or so, and the preflop raiser folded. No help for Smyth and his runs at this year's London EPT comes to an end.
