Player Profile: John Conroy

Seat 8: John Conroy, 43, UK
John, a PokerStars cash qualifier, is – like his fellow final table opponent Andrew - another Dubliner who lives in Leeds. He started playing poker 20 years ago; his first forays were draw and stud cash games in Dublin card rooms. He then stopped playing until the poker internet boom kicked off two years ago. He made the final table of the Monte Carlo Millions consolation event but for no prize money. His biggest win to date was last month at the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour in Walsall for £10,800.

Andrew Black on the Mic

To celebrate St Patricks Day, Andrew Black has been given his dream job: Final Table Commentator.

Although his words are unlikely to be broadcast on TV, rest assured when I say he is "livening up" the afternoon for a few of us.

O'Flaherty doubles up

Last hand of the current level sees Andrew O'Flaherty gain a much needed boost to his dwindling stack.

Fredrik Holstrup posted a moderate bet of 25k. O'Flaherty instantly moved his 90k chips all-in. Folded back to Hostrup who - for once - didn't discuss the state of the nation before making his decision. Call.

Andrew showed{K-Clubs}{J-Clubs}, Hostrup {J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.

The flop came a disinterested {3-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}.
Turn {4-Clubs}, giving Andrew additional insurance of a flush draw.
River {A-Clubs} for the nut flush.

Andrew is up to 193k, as they break for 15 minutes.

O'Flaherty - On the Felt

Andrew O'Flaherty just lost a huge pot to Marius.

After an early raise from Fredrik Hostrup or 35,000, Marius moved all-in for around 150,000. A brief pause from Andrew saw the Brit' stand up from his seat and also move all-in!

Fredrik, sensing a couple of big hands, quickly folded.

It was a classic Texas Hold'em "coin flip" situation as the cards were turned over.

Andrew: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}
Marius: {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}

The flop was a nightmate for Andrew. All low cards, which included {7-Diamonds}! O'Flaherty needed running spades for a miracle. The turn of {J-Clubs} sealed his fate and left him on the felt.

Marius more than doubles up from the pot. Still, we're left with eight players.

Peter Jepsen continues to add

Farid Meranghi likes his chips

Play is restrained with very little challenge to preflop raises. Action was therefore in order when for once, players limped to the big blind. Jepsen limped with 10k in early position, Farid called. Katja, quite low stacked is refusing to get involved until she finds a big hand, folded her small blind. Patric Martensson checked the BB.

Flop was {Q-Clubs}{4-Spades}{J-Spades}. Everyone checked.
Turn came {5-Spades} for three spades on the board.

Patric checked and Peter bet out 50k. Farid and Patric folded. Another useful addition for Jepsen.

Farid is still way ahead at this point with over a million in chips.

Bathroom talk

Fredrik Hostrup is feeling refreshed after his shower
Fredrik Hostrup is feeling refreshed after his shower
With the button, and all having folded before him, Fredrik Hostrup informed the room that he had been thinking in the shower about the "two tight players" to his left and how he should be able to steal their blinds. John Conroy said this raised some odd images in his mind (to considerable laughter). Undeterred, Fredrik raised to 35k. With the blinds at 5k/10k and total antes of 8k, the benefits are clear.

Peter Jepsen in the small blind was unmoved and promptly shifted 200k over the line with a reraise full of meaning.

Fredrik spent the next three minutes or so thinking aloud about "all or nothing". It would certainly be all even if he called as his chipcount does not extend too far beyond 200k. He folded and Peter showed the {A-Diamonds}
