Drinan and Chidwick Battle

Level 1 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

For the first forty minutes or so they were playing four-handed at Chidwick's table. Now Vladimir Troyanovsky joined but still it's very much short handed.

We saw Stephen Chidwick raise to 2,500 from the button and Connor Drinan in the big blind made the call. Drinan check called a 3,000 bet on {A-Clubs}{4-Spades}{6-Hearts} and 8,000 on the {7-Hearts} turn. The river was the {9-Diamonds} and now Drinan check folded to Chidwick's 20,000 bet.

Not much later though, Drinan would get those chips back. We missed the pre flop action but imagine Drinan opened from the button and Chidwick called from the big blind. Both players checked on {8-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{J-Clubs} and the {6-Spades} fell on the turn. Chidwick bet out 6,000 and Drinan made the call. The {K-Spades} on the river made Chidwick bet out 17,500. After some deliberation Drinan raised it up to 50,000. Chidwick almost instantly folded and the pot was pushed to Drinan.

The 100,000 Chip

Level 1 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

The players started out with 250,000 in chips today. Counting them is kind of tough as there are several different chips and some look very much alike.

There are the 100 chips, mostly used for putting up the ante, they have 500 chips, 1,000 chips, 5,000 chips, and 25,000 chips. Oh, and then there's the single 100,000 chips the players received. Those are rare, and some players have them kind of hidden underneath a large tower of chips. We'll make sure we don't miss counting that chip as they make all the difference.

Chidwick's Overbet Gets Paid

Level 1 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Fedor Holz defended his big blind against the under-the-gun raise of Stephen Chidwick and then check-called a bet on the {2-Spades} {8-Hearts} {A-Hearts} flop. The {Q-Spades} on the turn was checked through and the {9-Spades} river completed the board. Holz checked, Chidwick bet 24,900 into a pot of 12,000 and received a reluctantly call.

The Brit revealed {A-Spades} {3-Spades} for the nut flush and Holz mucked. At the time of the showdown, Jean-Noel Thorel had taken his seat on the very same table.

Kicker Plays

Level 2 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Joseph Cheong opened the hijack for 2,500 and Sam Greenwood in the cutoff made the call. Juha Helppi on the button came along for the ride, both blinds folded.

Cheong made a bet of 5,000 on {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} and both Greenwood and Helppi made the call. Cheong knew enough and checked on the {5-Spades} turn. Greenwood now bet 15,000 and Helppi made the call, Cheong folded. The {2-Spades} completed the board and Greenwood bet 33,000. Helppi counted out the 33,000, double checked his cards one last time, and made the call.

Greenwood rolled over {J-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} but that hand soon landed in the muck as Helppi tabled {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs} for the same pairs but with a better kicker.

Busquet Versus Thorel

Level 2 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Olivier Busquet raised it up to 3,000 from the hijack and was called by Jean-Noel Thorel in the blinds.

The flop came down {5-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} and Thorel checked. Busquet led out for 3,000 before being met with a quick min raise to 6,000. He called and both players watched the {3-Diamonds} fall on the turn.

Thorel reached for his chips and threw out a bet of 13,000 which was called. The {4-Spades} completed the board and both players opted to check.

Thorel turned over his {6-Spades}{6-Clubs} but it would not be enough as Busquet rolled over his {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades} for a better pair.

Chen Gets Active

Level 2 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Andrew Chen raised to 3,600 from under the gun and Dmitry Gromov three-bet to 7,200 from the button to receive a call from the Canadian. They both checked through the {8-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} {4-Spades} flop. On the {8-Hearts} turn, Chen checked and then folded to a bet of 11,500 by Gromov.

Two hands later, Mike McDonald raised to 3,000 from the button and Chen in the small blind as well as Jani Sointula in the big blind called. Chen bet 5,500 on the {5-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} flop and only McDonald called. On the {9-Diamonds} turn, a bet of 11,500 was enough to take down the pot without showdown.

Holz In Bad Weather

Level 2 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Fedor Holz
Fedor Holz

On a board of {8-Clubs}{10-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} we just saw Fedor Holz bet out 5,500. Both Troyanovsky and Thorel folded but Connor Drinan wasn't so quick to release his hand. Instead he raised it up to 16,000 and Holz made the call.

The {10-Diamonds} completed the board and Holz checked by knocking on the table. Drinan bet out 21,000 and Holz thought about it for some time. Eventually he called, but mucked rather quickly after he got shown {3-Spades}{3-Clubs} for a full house.
