Chen Versus Helppi

Level 15 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante

Andrew Chen raised to 52,000 from under the gun and found a single caller in Juha Helppi out of the big blind. On the {5-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {6-Hearts} flop, Helppi check-called a continuation bet of 53,000 and then check-raised the {2-Diamonds} turn from 129,000 to 300,000 after considering his options for a good two minutes. Chen called with what looked like 280,000 behind and the two of them went to the {9-Hearts} river.

Helppi checked and snap-folded when Chen moved all in.

Markin Marking His Territory

Level 15 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante

Andrew Chen opened the button for 60,000 and Leonid Markin made the call from the big blind.

Markin checked to Chen on {J-Clubs}{8-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and the Canadian bet out 58,000. Markin, as we know fond of small raises, pushed forward 116,000. Chen made the call.

The {9-Spades} fell on the turn and Markin checked. Chen raised an eyebrow and checked behind.

The {10-Spades} completed the board and Markin bet out 186,000. Chen thought about it for some time before tossing in a 25,000 chip to indicate the call.

Markin tabled {J-Diamonds}{7-Spades} for a flopped top pair which backed doored into a straight. Chen mucked.

Jacobson Doubles

Level 15 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante
Ivan Soshnikov - Martin Jacobson
Ivan Soshnikov - Martin Jacobson

The table folded around to Ivan Soshnikov on the button who looked down at his cards before slamming a stack of large denomination chips into the middle covering Martin Jacobson in the big blind.

Jacobson took one quick glance at his cards and snap called for his remaining 230,000 in chips.

Soshnikov: {a-Spades}{6-Diamonds}
Jacobson: {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

Jacobson had the best hand which improved to a flush after the board ran out {j-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}.

Andrew Chen Eliminated in 10th Place

Level 15 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante
Andrew Chen
Andrew Chen

Leonid Markin raised to 60,000 and was called by Andrew Chen in the big blind to see the heads-up flop of {10-Spades} {3-Spades} {2-Spades}. CHen check-folded to a bet of 100,000 by the Russian.

The very next hand, Chen limped from the small blind and Stephen Chidwick tossed in five green T-100,000 chips. Chen was subsequently all in for what looked like 655,000 and Chidwick put the Canadian at risk.

Chidwick: {4-Spades} {4-Diamonds}
Chen: {10-Spades} {10-Diamonds}

The window card was the {4-Clubs} and the rest of the board ran out {5-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {8-Spades} to reduce the field to the last nine players. A redraw will now take place and then play resumes until the money is reached.

Kanit Doubles Through Markin

Level 15 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante

Leonid Markin was first to act and opened to 72,000 from under the gun. The action folded around to Mustapha Kanit in the cut off who announced all in for his last 428,000 in chips. The button and blinds got out of the way then Markin made the call.

Markin: {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Kanit: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

Kanit had the higher kicker and held as the board ran out {8-Clubs}{7-Spades}{3-Hearts}{8-Spades}{k-Spades} to see him double up to 919,000 in chips.

Markin Gets Some Back

Level 15 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante

Mustapha Kanit raised to 50,000 from middle position and was called by Leonid Markin in the big blind. Both players checked down the {9-Clubs} {6-Clubs} {8-Clubs} flop and Markin then bet the {A-Spades} turn for 50,000. Kanit called before the {9-Hearts} river was checked down once again. Markin turned over {Q-Hearts} {8-Spades} and that won the pot.

Newey Sets Up Markin

Level 16 : 15,000/30,000, 3,000 ante

Leonid Markin raised it up to 72,000 from the cut off and was called by Paul Newey in the big blind.

The flop came down {2-Spades}{k-Spades}{8-Hearts} and both players checked.

With the {j-Diamonds} falling on the turn, Newey bet out 125,000 and was called almost instantly.

The {10-Hearts} completed the board and once again Newey bet 125,000. This time around Markin clicked it back to 250,000 and was called shortly after.

Markin hesitantly tabled his {j-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for running two pair but it was no good after Newey rolled over his {2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} for a set of deuces.

Helppi Doubles Through Kanit

Level 16 : 15,000/30,000, 3,000 ante

From under the gun, Juha Helppi raised to 60,000 and was called by Stephen Chidwick on the button and Paul Newey in the small blind. Mustapha Kanit moved all in from the big blind and Helppi called all in for 691,000 whereas Chidwick and Newey got out of the way.

Kanit: {K-Spades} {Q-Hearts}
Helppi: {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}

The Italian needed a lot of help(pi) in order to avoid a crucial blow to his stack, but the board ran out {2-Spades} {9-Spades} {9-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {A-Hearts} to leave Kanit very short.
