End of Day 1a Commentary

After one long day of poker, PokerNews had a chance to interview some of the players who we will see back at Casino Hohensyburg on Thursday. PokerStars Pro Katja Thater yet again proved her talents by surviving the last three hours on the toughest table in the room – the infamous table 7. Thater had a great start at the beginning of the day, but then lost a big pot to go down to 7,000. Staying at that level for a couple of hours, she eventually came back up to 19,500 by winning a few, late hands during the final hour. “It really has been a long day with a lot of media before the start today, but I would never complain. I love this and it is really nice to play on home turf,” says the elegant Thater to PokerNews.

Sweden’s Mats Iremark had been the main attraction on the same table by going from 52,000, down to 8,000, and then back up to 48,000 by the final hand of the day. “I like to play a lot of hands, so then you need to be prepared for a roller-coaster ride. I was steaming after losing a couple of big pots, but I got my act together and came back up. I was also very lucky a couple of times, but that is all part of this game, right?" commented Iremark on his way back to the hotel.

T6 poker has a lot of players in this tournament and two of their pros, Marek Kolk from Estonia and Swede Mats Rahmn, will be back on Thursday. “Fifteen minutes before the end of the day, a player at my table decided to donate his chip stack to me. I had been playing tight and called a preflop raise from the big blind holding {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}. The flop came {Q-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}, I check-raised with top pair and my opponent went all in with his last 16,000, holding {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}. It was a nice gift and I will be back on Thursday with 38,000," says Kolk.

Mats Rahmn was really short-stacked with two hours to go, but played bravely to end the day with 20,000. “When I was down to 4,000 I went all in a bunch of times and never got called. I stole my way back to 10,000 and then doubled up with half an hour to go. I’m looking forward to Thursday since this is the first time I have made it through to Day 2 in an EPT tournament,” says Rahmn.
