Dmitrii Vitugin Bags the Biggest Stack on Day 1a of the Golden Million Cyprus Main Event

Level 19 : 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Dmitrii Vitugin
Dmitrii Vitugin

The first of five opening days of the Golden Million Cyrpus Main Event at the Noah's Ark Deluxe Hotel and Spa began with a bang with 110 entrants coming out in full force ready to compete for at least a guaranteed €1 million prize pool.

Players bought in for €800 for a stack of 80,000 in chips with blinds increasing every 45 minutes. Most players opted to increase their stack to 100,000 in chips via a €40 add-on. The add-on also acted as bubble protection.

After more than 16 1/2 hours of play, Russia's Dmitrii Vitugin emerged as the chip leader with 2,158,000 in chips. Also in the top five on Day 1a were, Hanouadi Del Pino (1,830,000), Jose Rivas (1,360,000), Justinas Fiseris (1,265,000), and Vytautas Semaska (899,000). In addition to heading into Day 2 with a big stack, Vitugin also wins a Golden Poker Series Madrid package valued at around €1,000 in March 2020.

World Series of Poker Europe bracelet winner Espen Sandvik, who fired three bullets on Day 1a, bubbled after he jammed with jack-eight on a queen-eight-four flop only to be called by Hanouadi Del Pino with ace-queen. It looked good for Sandvik to double after a jack came on the turn to give him two pair but a four paired the board on the river to give his opponent a better two pair. Since Sandvik added on, he was awarded €840 for his bubble finish.

Bariskaan Cinitas, Mahnaz Eskandari, Roman Nuraev, Miguel Faria Lopes, Mohammed Razkouallah, and Alexandre Klepikov were all eliminated before Day 2 ended to collect a min-cash of €1,200. All six of these players have the option to reenter during any of the four remaining opening flights. In addition, Klepikov was awarded a package to the Golden Poker Series Marrakech at the end of March 2020 valued at around €1,000 for bubbling bagging chips into Day 2.

Meanwhile, all players that failed to cash on Day 1a are invited to a freeroll on Wednesday that award the top five players a free entry back into the Main Event.

The action will resume tomorrow for Day 1b at 3 p.m. EET. Stay tuned at PokerNews for coverage of the Golden Million Cyprus Main Event.

Klepikov Bubbles Day 1a

Level 19 : 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Alexandre Klepikov
Alexandre Klepikov

Dmitrii Vitugin opened for 60,000 from early position before Alexandre Klepikov three-bet jammed for about 600,000. Vitugin tanked for several minutes before the clock was called. When the clock was down to just one second, Vitugin made the call.

Alexandre Klepikov: {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
Dmitrii Vitugin: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}

Vitugin was ahead when the chips were into the pot and kept the lead throughout the hand with the {3-Clubs}{2-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{3-Spades} ran out on the board.

Stay tuned for the chip counts of the 11 players to advance to Day 2 from the Day 1a field and a full day recap.

Razkouallah Takes Out Two

Level 17 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Mohammed Razkouallah
Mohammed Razkouallah

Mahnaz Eskandari shoved for 150,000 from early position with {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} before Roman Nuraev three-bet jammed over the top for around 550,000 with {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}.

Mohammed Razkouallah visibly didn't notice the jam by Roman Nuraev and announced a call before he took back his chips.

"You know what I mean," said Razkouallah.

"You said call," said the dealer.

Razkouallah understood the decision and did indeed call with {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}.

The sevens held strong as the {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} ran out on the board and Razkoulallah not only eliminated two players but became the new chip leader with 1.9 million in chips.

Sandvik Bubbles But Gets €840

Level 16 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Espin Sandvik
Espin Sandvik

Espen Sandvik has bubbled Day 1a and now each of the remaining 17 players is guaranteed at least a €1,200 payout.

Sandvik three-bet jammed for 240,000 with {j-Spades}{8-Hearts} after the {4-Hearts}{8-Spades}{q-Clubs} came on the flop and was called by Hanouadi Del Pino with {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}.

The {j-Hearts} came on the turn to give Sandvik the lead with two pair but this was short-lived with Del Pino nailing a better two pair after the {4-Diamonds} paired the board on the river.

Since Sandvik added-on for the extra €40, he won't bubble empty-handed. Instead, he will walk away with his €840 buy-in refunded and will likely play Day 1c or Day 1d as he plans to play the High Roller tomorrow.

Jose Rivas
Jose Rivas

PokerNews caught up with the hand with Dimitrios Michailidis raising Jose Rivas from 67,500 to 142,000. Rivas tanked for two to three minutes before he jammed a monster stack more than covering the around 240,000 total his opponent had and Michailidis called.

Jose Rivas: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}
Dimitrios Michailidis: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

Rivas' pocket rockets held strong as the {8-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{6-Spades}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts} ran out on the board and he is easily the chip leader with a stack of around 700,000.

Early Exit for Sujeta

Level 5 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Tomas Sujeta
Tomas Sujeta

Strike one for Tomas Sujeta as he lost all his chips on his first bullet. Sujeta and another player checked In a three-way pot with about 10,000 in the middle with the {k-}{q-Clubs}{j-Clubs} on the flop before Andrey Golubev bet 4,000.

Sujeta raised to 22,000 and got one opponent to fold before Golubev called.

Sujeta then jammed for around 80,000 after the {3-Hearts} came on the turn and Golubev called. Golubev turned over {k-}{q-} for top two pair and was well ahead of his Sujeta's {q-}{10-}. A blank came on the river and Golubev took down the pot.

Golubev then took the rest of Sujeta's stack of around 35-40 big blinds a few hands later when Sujeta's bluff got called down. A few minutes later, Sujeta got back into the action to give it another go on Day 1a.

Rivas Wins Big with Cowboys

Level 5 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Jose Rivas

In a flurry of action, Miguel Faria Lopes four-bet jammed for more than 80,000 and was snap-called by Jose Rivas.

Miguel Faria Lopes: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Jose Rivas: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}

"Nice hand," said Lopes who stayed in his seat perhaps hoping the board would save him.

However, Lopes blanked the {10-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{9-Spades}{7-Spades} board and was sent packing at least for now as he still has time to reenter today or during any of the other four opening flights to take place this week.

The €1 Million Guaranteed Golden Million Cyprus is About to Begin

Golden Poker Series
Golden Poker Series

Players have flocked from all around the world including Europe, Asia, North America, and South America to the luxurious all-inclusive Noah's Ark Deluxe Hotel and Spa, located on the sand and surf in Bafra, Cyprus, for the latest edition of the Golden Poker Series.

PokerNews will be covering the highlight of the festival, the Golden Million Main Event featuring a mouth-watering €1 million guaranteed prize pool.

The structure is one of the deepest players can find anywhere in Europe, especially at the €800 price point. Many players already got in much cheaper via live satellites or through promotions with the festival's partners PPPoker, Neverlose Poker, and J88 Poker.

Players start off with a big stack of 80,000 in chips during each of the five opening flights on Nov. 26-30. Those looking for a little more can add another 20,000 in chips to bring their total stack up to 100,000 for €40. The add-on also acts as bubble insurance with players getting their buy-ins back if they are one spot away from a cash.

The first four opening flights feature 45-minute blind levels while the final flight is a turbo-affair with 20-minute blind levels. Players can reenter an unlimited amount of times during the 12 blind levels late registration window during each opening flight.

Each opening flight features its own bubble with 15 percent of each starting flight already cashing in the tournament. Each flight will end at different times as play will end when the field is down to 10 percent of the field.

Players bagging chips will enjoy a deeper structure as blinds increase to one hour in length on Day 2 on Nov. 30 before increasing again to 90-minute blind levels for the final two days on Dec. 1-2.

Those entering on today's Day 1a will be receiving some extra value. Any player that doesn't cash on Day 1a will be invited to a freeroll tomorrow where five players will be able to get back into the action of the Golden Million Main Event for free.
