"TheHayemaker" Loses First Bullet

Level 3 : 100/200, 20 ante
David Haye
David Haye

David "TheHayemaker" Haye started his Goliath campaign well early on and saw his 25,000 starting stack rise to 35,000.

However, the momentum faded and the former boxing world champion has been knocked out.

But with each player allowed up to five reentries, expect to see Haye back for another bout soon.

Beevers Building

Level 3 : 100/200, 20 ante

"MrGlonk" raised to 450 from middle position and Joe Beevers three-bet to 1,400 from the cutoff.

"MrGlonk" called and the flop fell {4-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. "MrGlonk" check-called a 1,200 c-bet from Beevers, with the {5-Spades} hitting the turn.

"MrGlonk" checked again and Beevers continued for 4,400. "MrGlonk" sat with their time bank fading and after using up 20 seconds of their additional time bank, they folded.

Beevers picked up the pot uncontested and is now playing 39,000.

"Kudos to Grosvenor"

Level 2 : 100/100, 10 ante
Jeff Kimber
Jeff Kimber

PokerNews spoke to Team Grosvenor in the lead up to the first online Goliath. Here's what Jeff Kimber and Katie Swift had to say.

“Kudos to Grosvenor. They took the decision early enough that their flagship event just wouldn’t be possible and went about setting up a whole week of online poker, headlined by the Goliath Main Event with a £100K guaranteed for a £125 entry. There won’t be 10,000 entries, but there will no doubt be over 1,000 and it’ll be great.”

Katie Swift finished second in the 2015 edition of the Goliath and, rightly so, has mixed feelings about switching online. Swift says she’s most excited about the new opportunity created by Grosvenor Poker who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to create a schedule for pros and recreational players alike. Swift was quite philosophical when asked about Goliath switching online.

“Obviously there is some disappointment felt that the live Goliath as we know and love it had to be cancelled, especially for what would have been an amazing 10th-year anniversary celebration. For me, I adapt pretty well in tough situations, so embrace any new challenge positively. Zero-point thinking of what might have been and wasting energy. Best to just focus on the present and embrace it positively.”

"Dudley101" Takes From Nixon

Level 2 : 100/100, 10 ante

"Dudley101" opened with a raise to 300 before Jamie Nixon made it 955, which received a call.

"Dudley101" check-called a 725 bet from Nixon on the {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}{8-Clubs} flop, before leading for 1,780 on the {3-Diamonds} turn, which Nixon called.

The {6-Spades} peeled off on the river, and "Dudley101" continued for 3,560.

Nixon gave himself a few seconds thinking time but ultimately made the call.

"Dudley101" revealed {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds} for top two pair, and Nixon mucked.

Ups and Downs

Level 2 : 100/100, 10 ante

The entrants total has crept up to 724 as Level 2 gets underway.

With players allowed up to five reentries, the action may be fast from the off, with 20 players already eliminated during level 1.

"Woodpusher", "tyleretholiver" and Team Grosvenor's Jeff Kimber occupy the top three stacks so far.

Kimber Scores Early KO

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

Team Grosvenor's Jeff Kimber raised from under the gun with {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts} before "PatSpringleaf" three-bet to 1,000.

"JohnnyMac1" called out of the big blind, and Kimber made up the rest.

The flop fell {a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades} and "JohnnyMac1" bet 800. Kimber called before "PatSpringleaf" raised to 2,200 and "JohnnyMac1" raised to 10.500.

Kimber moved all in for 15,200 and saw both opponents call.

"JohnnyMac1" held {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} for top pair, and "JohnnyMac1" was also behind with {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for a smaller two pair.

The turn {2-Clubs} and river {10-Spades} made no difference to the outcome and Kimber knocked out "PatSpringleaf", with "JohnnyMac1" left on crumbs.
