Lee Childs
Lee Childs

2003 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Chris Moneymaker isn't the only WSOP Main Event finalist in the field today.

Lee Childs, who finished seventh at the 2007 WSOP Main Event for $705,229 and makes his home in West Virginia, has come to Charles Town to get in on the action.

In fact, Childs is no stranger to Hollywood Poker Open action here in his home state, having made fourth here for $11,693 last year.

The veteran rounder owns a WSOP Circuit ring and his $1,470,642 in career tournament earnings makes him West Virginia's all time money winner and certainly worth following as this event plays out over the next two days.

Day 1 of the HPO Season 3 Charles Town Regional Main Event Starts Now!

The $1,115 Hollywood Poker Open Charles Town Regional Main Event kicks off at 12:15 p.m. local time inside the Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races in Charles Town, West Virginia today.

The last time the HPO came to Charles Town it was March of 2014 and Hazlet, New Jersey's Brian Cavaliere bested a field of 72 to win the main event after booking his seat in the tournament through a $235 HPO mega satellite.

The buy-in was $1,800 then, and the more affordable price point here in the HPO's third season is expected to attract an even bigger field.

Of course, HPO ambassador and 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Chris Moneymaker will be among the players in the field.

Coming off a final table appearance at HPO Grantville and a deep run in defense of his 2014 title at HPO St. Louis at the end of last month, Moneymaker showed up a day early here in West Virginia and took down the $300 Deepstack last night for $3,926.

Players will begin with 20,000 in tournament chips and plans to play 14 levels of 50 minutes each. Late entry and re-entry is available for the first six levels.

There will be a 15-minute break every two levels and a 60-minute dinner break after Level 6.

The survivors of the day will return Sunday at 12 p.m. Local time where the levels jump to 60 minutes and they will play down to a winner - Who will book also book seat in the $2,500 Championship Event at M Resort Casino and Spa in Las Vegas this June in addition to taking home a big chunk of the prizepool.

Stay tuned as the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be on hand from start to finish covering all the action.
