McArthur Leads on Bubble in Tunica

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Donald McArthur
Donald McArthur

After fourteen grueling Day 1 levels at Hollywood Poker Open Tunica Regional Main Event, six players remain and five will be paid. Donald McArthur leads the way, having amassed 370,000 through the course of play. That puts him well in front of second-place Mark Kehrees' 191,000.

Unfortunately, there will likely be little drama as to who will be the unfortunate bubble victim. Scott Mauer (175,000), James McCauley (123,500), Nancy Regan (31,000), and Chris Trotter (9,500) also survived with chips, with the latter having blinded down for the last four hours of the tournament. Trotter, a fixture in tournaments around the Tunica area with more than $80,000 in career cashes, left the venue during Level 10 (500/1,000/100) with one of the biggest stacks in the room after complaining of difficulty breathing. Hopefully, all turns out well for him, as good health takes precedence over a good score any day.

Trotter did score the signature elimination of the day when he flatted a 2,100 raise during Level 9 (400/800/75) on the button and saw HPO ambassador and former Main Event champ Chris Moneymaker shove all in from the big blind for about 12,000. Trotter called after the opener folded, holding with {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds} against {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs} as the board ran out {6-Hearts}{7-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Hearts}{8-Spades}.

As for McArthur, he was nearly eliminated during the previous level when he four-bet all in for about 13,000 over Trotter's 3,600 three-bet preflop. Trotter held {q-}{q-}, dominating McArthur's {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}, but McArthur found a king on the flop to survive. Later, he made some huge hands, including flopping a set of twos to cripple Zach Kauffman a little before the final table as Kauffman was unable to get away from top pair on a {2-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} flop.

Some other notable runners who threw their hats into the 45-player field but failed to make it through the day included former Borgata Winter Poker Open winner Josh Mancuso, WSOPC Tunica Main Event winner Johnny Landreth, five-time WSOPC ring and 2014 bracelet winner Kyle Cartwright, regional points leader Barry Schultz, and Ken Ervin, who trails Schultz by just 13 points.

The remaining six players reconvene Sunday at noon local time here in Tunica, and hopefully Trotter will be back in action.

Kyle Cartwright Eliminated in 8th Place

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Kyle Cartwright
Kyle Cartwright

Kyle Cartwright opened from the cutoff, and Mark Kehrees defended in the big blind. Kehrees checked the {9-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}, and Cartwright bet 5,500. Kehrees raised to 15,500, and Cartwright responded by shoving for more than 50,000. Kehrees snap-called with {10-Hearts}{9-Spades}, top two. Cartwright showed {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}.

"No king, no three, no seven," Kehrees urged after the {7-Hearts} peeled off on fourth street.

The {8-Clubs} didn't do it for the five-time WSOPC ring winner, who wished the remaining players good luck.

McArthur Doubles Through Kauffman; Lewis Back to Zero

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Zach Kauffman
Zach Kauffman

We found Donald McArthur all in for 82,700 over a bet of 10,000 from Zach Kauffman, who was in the cutoff on a {2-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} flop. Kauffman asked if McArthur flopped a set.

"Will you show me if I fold?" Kauffman asked.

McArthur shook his head no. After a couple of minutes, Kauffman mustered the nerve to call. Kauffman's initial instinct was right, as his {10-Spades}{9-Clubs} was crushed by McArthur's {2-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}. Kauffman was drawing dead after the {7-Spades} turn.

At the other table Wilfred Lewis busted out.

Players are on break for 15 minutes.

Schultz Busted by Mauer in Monster Pot

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Barry Schultz
Barry Schultz

Small blind Barry Schultz bet 6,000 on a {10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{5-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} board against Scott Mauer, who bumped it to about 15,000 on the button. Schultz moved all in, and Mauer called, tabling {4-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for the low straight. Schultz revealed a {7-Diamonds}...and a {9-Diamonds}, a gutshot to a better straight plus a flush draw. The dealer burned and turned a {4-Spades}.

"That's not a winner for me," Schultz assessed. "Two inside straights you hit on me. Outstanding."

Schultz had approximately 90,000 remaining, and Mauer covered him, so Schultz is done. He won't be adding to his points lead at this Hollywood Poker Open stop.

Nancy Regan

Nancy Regan got her last 10,250 in with {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} and was called by a player holding {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. The aces held as an eight-high community came out, Regan's second double with the weapons of mass destruction.

Players are on another 15-minute break.

Trotter Bounces Moneymaker

Level 9 : 400/800, 75 ante
Chris Moneymaker
Chris Moneymaker

Rob Przygoda opened for 2,100 in the cutoff and got calls from Chris Trotter and Nancy Regan before Chris Moneymaker shoved in the big blind for about 12,000 total. Przygoda mucked, but Trotter called, while Regan also folded.

Trotter: {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}
Moneymaker: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

The Hollywood Poker Open ambassador found zero help as {6-Hearts}{7-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Hearts}{8-Spades} rolled off the deck. He knuckled the table and wished everyone good luck.

Josh Mancuso
Josh Mancuso

Josh Mancuso, one of the more accomplished players in the field with north of $800,000 in career cashes, just busted when he jammed his last 10,000 or so from the small blind with {k-}{9-} and the big blind woke up with {a-Spades}{9-Clubs}. Mancuse was unable to find a king to pair up, and he busted out.

Schultz Doubles Through Moneymaker

Level 8 : 300/600, 50 ante
Barry Schultz
Barry Schultz

Barry Schultz was showing down {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}on a {j-Clubs}{a-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{4-Clubs} board when we arrived at his table, receiving a massive double through Chris Moneymaker. The latter's hand was already in the muck.

"So much for value shoving," Moneymaker muttered, saying he thought Schultz had ace-queen.

Moneymaker Doubles Through Landreth

Johnny Landreth bet 5,400 on a board of {6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{8-Spades}{10-Clubs} from the big blind, and Chris Moneymaker called in middle position. The {4-Spades} paired the board, and Landreth checked. Moneymaker took about a minute to count his stack before shoving for 11,675. Landreth called, and Moneymaker flipped {6-Clubs}{6-Spades} for sixes full. Landreth mucked, and the former Main Event champ got a nice double as an appetizer before dinner.
