Tepen Up

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Ryan Tepen
Ryan Tepen

Ryan Tepen is ahead of the pack in the early going of Day 1a. On this hand he led the flop and two players folded, giving him the pot.

The action started when four players saw the {4-Clubs}{q-Spades}{3-Diamonds} flop. The action checked to the player on the button who bet 600. Tepen and one other player called.

The three remaining players checked the {7-Clubs} on the turn and Tepen led out for 3,000 when the {7-Spades} hit the river. The first opponent quickly folded and the player on the button reluctantly bowed out shortly after. Tepen now has the early chip lead, and has almost doubled his starting stack.

Ernstein Unraises, Pound Scores a Knockout

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Robert Pound
Robert Pound

Robert Pound and Andy Ernstein were in a pot where five players saw the flop, and the preflop raiser was eliminated by Pound, who is now sitting at almost 50,000.

The knocked-out player opened to 375 under the gun and got four callers.

The flop came {8-Spades}{6-Hearts}{6-Spades} and two players checked to the preflop raiser. He bet 1,300 and Pound called before Ernstein raised to 5,300.

The action fell back to the preflop raiser and he took a few moments to figure out his next move. He asked to see how many more chips Ernstein had and then seemed to be debating between a call or a raise as he took one chip in his hand, then pulled it back to his stack and throwing in a raise. He made it 16,300, putting himself almost all in with only about 18,000 total.

Pound didn't hesitate to reraise all in for his last 22,000 and the action was back on Ernstein.

Ernstein looked at the two players, then back to the board.

"Unraise," he said with a smile to the dealer and mucked his cards, letting the two remaining players sort it out between themselves.

Pound's opponent called and Pound showed {a-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, for trips. He was ahead of the {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} of his opponent. The board kept Pound in the lead, as it ran out {5-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} and Pound earned the knockout.

Ed McPike
Ed McPike

For the second hand a row, Peter Brooks raised preflop. This time it was after a limp by Tim Vance. Four players called, including Vance.

The flop came {a-Clubs}{9-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and the action checked to Brooks. He led for 1,650 and Ed McPike was the lone caller.

The turn was the {5-Diamonds} and McPike checked to Brooks again. This time Brooks bet 2,150 and McPike called pretty quickly.

The river paired the board with the {9-Clubs} and McPike hesitated for a moment. He then slid a bet of 5,000. Brooks went into the tank for about a minute. He looked at his cards again, then decided to muck his hand, putting McPike over 50,000.
