James Lushin on the Wrong Side of Variance

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

James Lushin's dreams of glory were dashed in the matter of two hands. He would first take a dominating {A-Clubs}{K-Spades} up against a shorter stack's {A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} and lose a big chunk of his stack when the board would run out {9-Clubs}{8-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{3-Spades}. Moments later he would put the last of his chips in against Elliott Zaydman and was racing with {K-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} against Zaydman's {6-Clubs}{6-Spades}.

The flop was {9-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{6-Hearts} giving Zaydman a set but also giving Lushin an open-ended straight draw. It wasn't to be, however, as the turn was the {A-Hearts} and the river was the {7-Spades} to send Lushin off to collect his winnings. Zaydman in the meantime continued to build his big stack, now sitting at 1.3 million in chips.
