Sweeney Swings for the Fences

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante
Tracey Sweeney
Tracey Sweeney

Tracey Sweeney is off to an amazing start here at the Hollywood Poker Open Championship event, as we just saw her rake in a pot to boost her stack to 67,000.

The action started on the player under the gun who limped for 200, and from his direct left it was Chris Dowling who three-bet to 650. Three players made the call including Sweeney on the button, and the flop brought out {2-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}.

Dowling bet 1,500 and Sweeney was the only caller, after which the turn brought the {7-Hearts}.

This time Downling check-called 2,500 and on the river the {A-Spades} hit. Dowling checked to Sweeney who checked behind, and she raked in the pot showing {A-Hearts}{3-Hearts}.

Sweeney now sits on 67,000 chips and is the early chip leader in this event.

Dempsey Takes One with Top Set

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

From under the gun, Josh Dempsey raised to 500. Garry Gates called from middle position, and the player in the big blind, Michael Laake, also made the call. On the {Q-Spades}{4-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop, Laake checked before Dempsey bet 1,000. Gates and Laake called.

The turn was the {3-Diamonds}, and action checked to Dempsey again. He bet 3,000, Gates folded, but Laake called.

The river was the {J-Spades}, bringing in a possible flush draw, and both players checked.

Dempsey showed the {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} for top set of queens, and he won the pot after Laake mucked.

Katz Busts Ward

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

On the {J-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades}{8-Hearts} board, one player checked to John Ward, who had 2,275 left in his stack. He moved all of those into the middle, and Michael Katz called from behind. The first player then folded.

Katz had flopped a set of sixes with the {6-Clubs}{6-Spades}. Ward had a flush draw with the {A-Spades}{10-Spades}. The river was the {10-Clubs}, but the pair of tens that Ward was left with wasn't good enough to keep him alive.

Failla Takes One, Middleton Spotted

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Former EPT Barcelona winner Tom Middleton was just spotted on Will Failla’s table, and when we noticed him he came in for a raise to 500. The action folded to Failla in the small blind. He called, as did the player in the big blind.

The flop came down {K-Spades}{5-Spades}{7-Spades} and Failla checked, the player in the big blind bet and Middleton folded. Failla called and the {3-Spades} popped up on the turn.

This time both players checked and the river was the {7-Hearts}. Failla led out for 1,300 and he picked up the pot after his opponent folded.
