Moments after becoming the first casualty here on Day 1 of the HPO Charles Town Main Event, Paul McCaffrey decided to fire another bullet by re-entering.
That was unfortunate for Ernest Lewis, because soon after taking his new seat, McCaffrey managed to send a second player to the registration desk.
According to McCaffrey, he found the and went to the flop heads up against Lewis. After a baby card board of came down on the flop, Lewis liked the look of his , and he moved all in to put McCaffrey to the test.
With his overpair to the board, McCaffrey called Lewis down though, and the fishhooks held up to notch the knockout. McCaffrey currently sits with nearly double the starting stack (appropriate given he's purchased a pair of 20,000 stacks already), while Lewis has sat down at another table to fire a second bullet of his own.
With a board of already displayed, and a sizable pot with more than 7,000 up for grabs, Bill Mikolay watched his opponent slide a bet of 4,000 forward.
"How much?" he asked with authority in his voice. "I call!"
The arrived on the river and Mikolay's opponent slowed down with a check, and Mikolay did the same behind.
"You got two eights, huh?" he asked the woman, only to see her table for two pair in response.
Mikolay calmly turned over one card - the - and for a moment it appeared he held the second-best hand.
"You can turn that one over too..." he said, before flipping his face up on the felt. "Yeah, make sure that one gets in there too."
With top two pair on the flop Mikolay was in front the whole time, and he chipped up early here on Day 1 despite failing to stack his opponent.
With his tablet device laid neatly near his seat, Chris Moneymaker can be seen calmly playing the game Clash of Clans, a computer game based on building armies and attacking others.
Moneymaker - no stranger to building an army of chips and attacking his opponents - played a pair of small pots recently, skirmishing with his tablemates before ultimately surrendering.
First, Moneymaker took a four-way flop which came down , and after checking in early position Moneymaker folded to the standard c-bet made my Bill Mikolay. After seeing the flashed by Mikolay for top pair, Moneymaker only nodded and returned his focus to the screen beneath him.
Shortly thereafter Moneymaker saw a flop of , but once again he released his holding after the first bet was made.
Despite these minor retreats, Moneymaker still holds more than double the starting stack, and he sits comfortably above 40,000 as the first break of the day begins.
Lewis was in the house here today for the $1,800 buy-in HPO Charles Town Main Event, but he was forced to fire a second bullet after going bust during the first level.
Apparently though, that second 20,000 starting stack made no difference, as Lewis has been bounced to the rail for a second time. We haven't seen Lewis return to take a new seat, and that may mean that his time here today has come to an end.
The flop read when Mike Anderson's opponent led out for a 2,200 wager.
Anderson quickly cut out a stack of calling chips - and then added five more orange T1000 chips to the tower and sliding it forward.
The other player tanked for more than a minute, and shot Anderson a glance or two from the next seat over, but eventually his cards were slid toward the dealer.
"Just because its you..." said Anderson as he flashed the for top two pair. "I'll show ya once."
Whenever a pot is raised and we hear a dealer announce "five players to the flop," its generally best to stick around and see what goes down.
In this case, Ronald "Ron" Robey and four opponents each put 450 into the pot before the flop, creating a sizable reward for the eventual victor.
On the flop Robey led out for a 1,300 bet and found one caller. The turn card came and Robey led out once again, this time for 5,000 even. Almost immediately, however, his opponent announced himself all-in, and an additional 15,000 or so went into the middle.
Robey wasted no time in calling with his for top pair and a quality kicker (along with a four-flush to boot), finding himself well out in front of the other player's .
