HPO Grantville Regional Championship
Day 2 Started
Welcome back to the 2014 Hollywood Poker Open Grantville Regional Championship $1,800 buy-in Main Event here at the Penn National Race Course in Pennsylvania. What stated with 37 players is now down to the final nine, and today they'll play down to a winner. Who will take home the $22,752 first-place prize and a seat into the $2,500 HPO Championship in Vegas this June?
If chips are any indication, it would be chip leader Bradley Yazici, who bagged up 170,400 after 12 levels of play on Saturday. Yazici got a good portion of his chips by eliminating 2007 World Series of Poker seventh-place finisher Lee Childs, who ran an ill-timed bluff. Likewise, Yazici eliminated Ken Moore in the closing minutes of the night to solidify his chips lead.
Yazici may hold the chips lead, but not by much. Nipping at his heels is Jason Thomas with 156,100. On Day 1, Thomas clashed with HPO Ambassador and 2003 WSOP Main Event champ Chris Moneymaker on several occasions. While he didn't eliminate Moneymaker, he did manage to take him for quite a few chips throughout the day.
The only other player coming in with more than 100K is John Kostelac (118,200), who was one of the most active players on Day 1 despite playing with one arm. The other is tucked away in a sling, the result of tearing his rotator cuff while walking some dogs his wife had rescued. Kostelac seems to have a kind heart, but his play at the table is ruthless.
Chi Do, Mike Summers, Vicki Russel and Peter Kaemmerlen will start the day in the middle of the pack, while Kenneth "Hockey" Hock and Fritz Neunkirchner will have their work cut out for themselves as the short stacks.
We'll be bringing you some more information on each player as the day unfolds, but in the meantime check out where they're seated at the table:
Seat | Player | Count |
---|---|---|
1 | Chi Do | 68,200 |
2 | Kenneth "Hockey" Hock | 18,800 |
3 | John Kostelac | 118,200 |
4 | Jason Thomas | 156,100 |
5 | Bradley Yazici | 170,400 |
6 | Mike Summers | 88,600 |
7 | Fritz Neunkirchner | 17,700 |
8 | Vicki Russel | 55,400 |
9 | Peter Kaemmerlen | 46,600 |
The final nine players will return at 1 p.m. local time, which is about 90 minutes from now. Only five of them will get paid, meaning four more need to leave Grantville disappointed. Who will it be? Join us then as we bring you all the action and eliminations right here on PokerNews.

The cards are in the air here on Day 2, but one player is missing. Vicki Russel, who said she was going to play cash games after play concluded late last night, has yet to arrive. The show must go on though, so she'll now be blinded out until she takes her seat.
Jason Thomas and Bradley Yazici each put in 7,400 preflop and saw a flop of . Thomas checked from the hijack, Yazici bet 8,200 from the cutoff, and Thomas woke up with a check-raise to 23,000. It did the trick as Yazici folded.
A massive hand just went down between the two chip leaders.
It began when Jason Thomas, who began the day second in chips, opened for 3,200 only to have Bradley Yazici, the chip leader, three-bet to 7,500. Action folded back to Thomas, and he pushed back with a four-bet to 16,000. Not to be outdone, Yazici five-bet to 35,000, Thomas six-bet to 60,000, and Yazici seven-bet shoved, which Thomas called.
Yazici:
Thomas:
The table and railbirds erupted in disbelief at the cooler hand. Little did they know it'd get worse. The flop wasn't anything special, but the turn was for Yazici. He spiked his two outer and Thomas was visibly shaken. The river failed to change a thing, and Thomas just stared as the dealer verified the stacks. Yazici held 168,800, which was barely more than Thomas' 163,400.
The cooler sent Thomas to the rail empty handed in ninth place, while Yazici has nearly half the chips in play.
Player | Chips | Progress |
---|---|---|
Bradley Yazici | 345,000 | 174,600 |
Jason Thomas | Busted |
With 30,000 or so already in the pot and a board reading , John Kostelac bet 20,000 and then called when Peter Kaemmerlen moved all in for 10,000 more. Kostelac held the for top pair, but he was drawing dead as Kaemmerlen turned over the for a set. The meaningless was put out on the river for good measure, and Kaemmerlen was shipped the double.
Player | Chips | Progress |
---|---|---|
Peter Kaemmerlen | 90,000 | 43,400 |
John Kostelac | 75,000 | -43,200 |
Action folded to Mike Summers on the button and he put in a raise to 3,000. Fritz Neunkirchner was next to act in the small blind and he opted to move all in for 12,900. The big blind folded and Summers called the additional 9,900.
Neunkirchner:
Summers:
Neunkirchner was ahead with two big cards, but Summers was drawing live to the low suited connectors.
"I like his chances," someone at the table said when the flop delivered Neunkirchner a full house. Indeed, the two pair was strong, but his hand became invincible when the turn gave him a full house. After the completed the board on the river, Neunkirchner was shipped the double, though he is still on the shorter side.
Player | Chips | Progress |
---|---|---|
Mike Summers | 71,000 | -17,600 |
Fritz Neunkirchner | 28,000 | 15,100 |
