I Got Spurs That Gimbel, Gamble, Gimbel

Level 9 : 400/800, 75 ante

Harrison Gimbel, who has been winning major poker tournaments since he was too young to win major poker tournaments in most parts of this country (see the 2010 PCA), is making a run at the Hollywood Poker Open Season 4 Championship Event.

He's got it up to 136,500 now after min-raising the button and going heads up to a {j-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop after the big blind defended.

After a check, Gimbel made the same 1,600-chip bet and the big blind obliged again. They both checked the {q-Spades} turn, but when the big blind checked again on the {j-Clubs} river, Gimbel bet 6,000.

The big blind called it off and mucked when Gimbel showed the {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}.

The Bull Gets The Horns

Level 9 : 400/800, 75 ante

After a bullish start to the day, 2016 Aussie Millions Main Event winner Ari Engel has been sent packing.

Details were few and far between, but we did see Engel get the last of his chips in with two pair on an {8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{2-Spades}{3-Clubs} board.

His {2-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} was no match for his opponent's {j-Spades}{7-Spades}, however, and Engel hit the exits.

The Life and Times of Max Greenwood

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Upon spotting Max Greenwood in the field late here on Day 1a, we hoovered around his table for a total of three hands, all of which he was seriously involved in.

First we saw a raise and a call before Greenwood called as well for 2,000 total. The flop brought out {K-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}, and Greenwood checked to the initial raiser who bet 3,200. Ray Henson made the call and Greenwood moved all in for about 25,000 chips.

After a while both players folded, and Greenwood picked up the pot.

On the very next hand Greenwood three-bet to 7,500 after a raise to 2,000 and a call, after which Stevan Chew moved all in from his direct left for 10,650. The other two players folded and Greenwood called.

Greenwood: {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}
Chew: {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}

The board ran out {7-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{8-Spades} and despite Greenwood throwing his king towards the board on the flop, and his ace towards the river, he hit neither of his outs.

On the third hand we've watched, Greenwood raised to 1,800 from the button and the player in the big blind called. The flop brought out {K-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and Greenwood continued for 2,000 and his opponent called.

On the turn the {7-Hearts} hit and Greenwood's opponent check-called another 4,500. The river brought the {8-Diamonds} and now both players checked. The big blind showed {K-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and Greenwood mucked, dropping down to about 18,000 chips.

Holloway No Longer Holds 'em

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

WSOP Casino Employees Event bracelet winner Chad Holloway will likely not be adding a Hollywood Poker Open title to his trophy case.

He open shoved the {q-Spades}{10-Spades} running into pocket nines for his last 20,000 and failed to improve.

Unless the the media mogul's summer package includes another bullet in this thing tomorrow, he's out.

Geilich Exits

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

"I've just been losing 15% of my chips in so many hands," Ludovic Geilich said before we enquired how he got knocked out.

Geilich raised with {A-}{10-} to 2,300 and the player in the big blind move all in for his final 10 big blinds. Geilich called and lost to {A-}{Q-}.

On the very next hand Geilich moved all in for seven big blinds with ace-four and he got called by the player he had just doubled up. Geilich was up against king-queen and he didn't manage to win.

Frank Patti
Frank Patti

Kansas City's Frank Patti says he lost the biggest pot he's played all day.

However, he's won enough small ones to push up to 230,000 and into the lead here in the day's final level.

The winner of the Heartland Poker Tour stop in his home town in 2015, Patti looks like a lock to bag big here and should be worth watching in the days to come.
