Cuny Leads: Just for the Fun of It

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Ray Cuny
Ray Cuny

Ninety-one-year-old Ray Cuny is living out a poker dream.

Deep on Day 1b of the Hollywood Poker Open Season 4 Championship Event, he's got almost 200,000 in chips, and has been hanging with pros and other players not just half his age, but many less than a third.

The Aurora, Illinois resident is a regular player at the Hollywood property in nearby Joliet, and qualified for the championship through an event there.

Cuny's family, whose been on the rail following him all day, says he's played cards since he was a kid, and when he's on the felt, he's so focused on the game, the troubles of everyday life seem to just melt away.

Cuny's troubles include a very serious medical condition. He was recently diagnosed with bladder cancer, but hasn't even given his condition a second thought, enjoying the camaraderie and good old fashioned fun at the Hollywood Poker Open tables today.

Plus, all the pots he's won on the way to a chip lead heading into the flight's last two levels haven't hurt either. Cuny's family says he's just playing for fun, but we can all agree on one thing, winning adds a whole lot more of it.

Drinan and Anderson Cruising

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Calvin Anderson
Calvin Anderson

Connor Drinan and Calvin Anderson are having a fun night of poker action, and at their table it almost sounds like a homegame with the amount of banter that's going on.

Just now Anderson limped under the gun and the player two to his left moved all in for 8,000 chips. The action folded to Drinan who tanked for a bit and said, "I fold, but I want to keep these cards here to show later."

The dealer didn't allow Drinan to keep his cards, and they were mucked, and Anderson called the shove.

Anderson: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}
Opponent :{K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}

The board ran out {Q-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and Anderson won the pot.

"Full house!" Drinan yelled, as he claimed to have folded pocket fours.

"You believe me, Cal?" Drinan yelled.

"I believe you," Anderson smiled.

"That's An Insane Play"

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

After a player limped in from under the gun, Connor Drinan raised to 4,000 on the button. Calvin Anderson called out of the big blind, the limper called, and the flop fell {9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts}. Anderson led with a bet of 5,200, and the next player folded. Drinan raised to 14,000, and then Anderson came back over the top with a reraise to about 65,000 to put Drinan all in. Drinan gave it up, but not without comment.

"What'd you have?" asked Drinan. "That's an insane play! What'd you have?"

Anderson wouldn't answer and stacked up to 141,000 in chips.

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

The button made it 2,300 and late-registrant and relative short stack Jason Les three-bet the small blind, making it 5,000 total.

The big blind folded and the button called. After tanking it out for 30 seconds, Les bet 4,600 on the {k-Clubs}{10-Spades}{8-Clubs} flop and after the button shoved, he folded, leaving himself a little more than 10,000 chips behind.

Michael Aron
Michael Aron

Michael Aron bet 30,000 on the {5-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Spades}{5-Spades} board, and Shashank Jain made the call to see the {9-Hearts} complete the board on the river. Jain had about 70,000 or 75,000 left, and Aron moved all in with a little bit more. Jain tanked for a little, then folded, and Aron was pushed the pot.
