Fledderman Leads Final 15; Moneymaker Alive and Well

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 100 ante
Chris Moneymaker

The Hollywood Poker Open St. Louis Regional Championship kicked off on Saturday, and it was the largest HPO Regional Event of 2014, attracting a total of 67 entrants.

Mark Fledderman leads the 15 survivors with 163,900 chips, and Team PokerStars Pro and HPO Ambassador Chris Moneymaker is among the leaders with 114,100. Moneymaker endured a very swingy final level of the night, which saw him dip as low has 50,000. The 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event champ was able to steady the ship as the tournament clock ticked closer to zero though, and will look to improve upon his third-place finish at HPO Tunica.

Todd Bartlett bagged the second largest stack with 158,000 chips, thanks to a very big coin flip during the final level of the night. Jerry Milanos four-bet all in for 47,000 with the blinds at 600/1,200/100 holding {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}, and Bartlett, the three-bettor, called with {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}. Bartlett flopped a flush draw, turned a king, and held when the river produced a brick.

Among the players to bust before the end of play were Jonathan Taylor, Scotty Clark, and Ryan Franklin. Frank lost a race with {6-Clubs}{6-Spades} against the {a-Clubs}{k-Spades} of Lance Dorsey, and Taylor suffered a bad beat at the hands of Michael Belken.

Taylor was all in and at risk with{q-}{q-} on a board of {2-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}, and Belken had him at risk with {9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}. The {9-Spades} spiked on the river, and the 2013 WSOP bracelet winner was sent packing.

During the final break of the day, there was a bit of a frenzy, and three players hit the rail. Peter Brooks was all in with {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts} on a flop of {6-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{q-Spades}, and Robert Lakey had him drawing very thin with {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}. The turn was the {a-Spades}, leaving Brooks drawing dead.

Lakey was later delivered a very bad beat, flopping the nuts and getting drawn out on by Todd Metheny.

The other eliminations occurred on Table 33, where there was a three-way all in preflop. Frank Wyville ({6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}) had both Pete Weber ({k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}) and Thomas Morse ({a-}{q-}) at risk, and held as the board came {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{5-Spades}{3-Hearts}.

The 67 entrants generated a total prize pool of $106,643. The top seven players will earn a minimum of $5,332, and the winner will take home $36,259 and a seat into the $2,500 buy-in HPO Championship Event at The M Resort Spa Casino in Las Vegas in June.

Day 2 begins on Sunday at 12 p.m. local time, and PokerNews will be on hand to provide live updates until there is a champion crowned.

Until then, good night from St. Louis!

Doing Cartwright-wheels

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 100 ante
Kyle Cartwright
Kyle Cartwright

Kyle Cartwright, Todd Metheny, and Matthew Kingston took a flop of {4-Spades}{j-Hearts}{3-Clubs} in a three-bet pot. The action checked to Cartwright, the three-bettor, and he continued out with a bet. Metheny folded, Kingston moved all in for effectively 25,000, and Cartwright quickly called.

Kingston: {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}
Cartwright: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}

The queens held up as the turn and river bricked {4-Diamonds}, {a-Hearts} respectively, and Cartwright doubled to around 70,000 chips.

Damjan Radanov raised to 2,600 from under the gun, Derek Shroeder re-raised to 6,400 from the cutoff, and Shabtai Moria cold-called from the small blind. Radanov put in a fourth-bet, re-raising to 15,000, and Shroeder quickly folded. Moria moved all in for effectively 56,000 or so, and Radanov snap-folded.

Cartwright Clubs Metheny

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Kyle Cartwright
Kyle Cartwright

Jovan Sudar raised to 2,700 from under the gun, Kyle Cartwright called on the button, Todd Metheny called out of the small blind, and Damjan Radanov defended his big blind.

The dealer fanned {3-Spades}{8-Clubs}{9-Clubs}, the action checked to Cartwright, and the seven-time World Series of Poker Circuit ring winner fired out 4,400. Only Metheny called.

The turn was the {2-Diamonds}, Metheny tapped the felt, and Cartwright reached for chips. He tossed forward 8,500, Metheny called, and the river was a very interesting card; the {2-Clubs}.

Not only did it pair the board, it brought a third club, and Metheny checked once more. Cartwright flipped forward a very small bet of 6,500 - less than a fifth of the pot - and Metheny called.

Cartwright showed {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for a flush, winning the pot.

Taylor Takes Off

Jonathan Taylor busts

Jonathan Taylor was all in and at risk with {q-}{q-} on a board of {2-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}, and was in great shape to double against Michael Belken's {9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}, but unfortunately for the 2013 World Series of Poker bracelet winner the {9-Spades} spiked on the river.

Taylor graciously wished his opponents good luck, then headed for the rail. Belken is up to 60,000 chips.

Deborah Phillips, Peter Nigh, and Johnathan Dahlberg have also been eliminated.

Three Streets of Value for Metheny

Level 9 : 400/800, 75 ante
Todd Metheny
Todd Metheny

Matthew Kingston raised to 1,900 in middle position, Teddy Metheny called in the hijack, and the rest of the players folded.

The flop came down {k-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}, Kingston check-called a bet of 2,000, and the turn was the {2-Spades}. Kingston checked, Metheny fired another 3,500, and Kingston called.

The river was another deuce - the {2-Clubs} - Kingston checked a third and final time, and Metheny bet 4,800.

"Call," Kingston sighed.

Metheny turned over {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades} for aces and kings, and Kingston mucked his holdings.

Franklin Busts

Level 9 : 400/800, 75 ante
Ryan Franklin busts on a very slow race
Ryan Franklin busts on a very slow race

Lance Dorsey opened to 2,400 in early position, and the action folded to Ryan Franklin, who moved all in for an additional 8,500. Dorsey bemoaned the decision for well over a minute, then made the call, showing {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}.

Franklin laughed at the sight of the premium hand, and tabled {6-Clubs}{6-Spades}.

The {2-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} flop was clean, as was the {10-Diamonds} on the turn, but the {a-Spades} spiked on the river to give Dorsey a leading pair of aces. He rapped the table emphatically when the prettiest card in the deck hit the felt, and Franklin wished the players good luck before swiftly exiting the tournament area.
