Day 1a Started
The Heartland Poker Tour is back in full swing after five preliminary events with Wednesday marking the beginning of the $1,100 Main Event for the July edition of HPT Black Hawk. This particular stop is becoming a fixture among the poker world as an end-of-summer haven once the action in Las Vegas comes to a close.
With four starting flights, this nationally televised event is sure to see a huge field and an even bigger prize pool. Last year’s champion Ben Brown outlasted a field of 763 entries en route to a first-place prize of $159,131.
Action will begin at noon local time for all four starting flights, from Wednesday through Saturday, with the field combining for Day 2 on Sunday. Players will receive 30,000 in starting chips with blinds set to begin at 100/100 with big blind antes beginning in Level 4 (100/300). Levels will last 40 minutes each with play set to continue until the end of Level 15 (2,000/4,000/4,000) or until 13 percent of the field remains.
There will be 15-minute breaks at the completion of every three levels and a 60-minute dinner break at the end of Level 9. Registration will remain open until the beginning of Level 10 at approximately 7:30 p.m. local time with unlimited re-entries available during that time.
PokerNews will be providing coverage all weekend long. Stay tuned to catch updates on all the action as the tournament unfolds.

Terry Patten raised to 300 from early position and received calls from [Removed:321] Sharif in middle position as well as the player in the hijack. The player on the button three-bet to 1,800 and action then folded to Ben Hamilton in the big blind, who confirmed the amount before making the call. Patten, Sharif, and the hijack call called as well and the dealer announced five players would be seeing the flop.
The flop fell and Hamilton checked. Patten led out for 1,000 and was called by all four players except the hijack.
The turn came and Hamilton checked again. Patten fired a bet of 1,000 again and was raised to 2,000 from Sharif. Action folded back around to Patten and he made the call, taking action heads up to the river where both remaining players checked.
Sharif tabled and Patten confirmed that was better than his hand as he sent his cards to the muck and Sharif raked in the pot.

Mike Englert was recently seen in his seat as Level 2 is underway. Englert is no stranger to success at this venue: he took down the HPT Black Hawk Main Event in February, 2018, outlasting a field of 607 players for a massive payday of $200,762. He also took third place in this very event in July, 2017 for $53,550.
