Classic Cooler Goes Awry For O'Neill

Level 6 : 200/500, 500 ante
Mike O'Neill
Mike O'Neill

A preflop raising war saw Benny Beever get his last 34,400 in preflop, and Mike O'Neill had him at risk next to act.

Benny Beever: {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Mike O'Neill: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}

Beever's kings had ran into the rockets, and the {3-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop was no help. The table gasped as the {k-Clubs} fell on the turn, giving Beever kings-full and a huge lead. The {3-Spades} gave no salvation to O'Neill, and he sent more than half of his stack over to Beever.

Mike Shin
Mike Shin

A player raised to 1,000 from the hijack, and Season XV HPT St. Louis champ Mike Shin three-bet to 3,000 from the cutoff. The hijack called.

The hijack check-called a bet of 2,800 on the {9-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{7-Spades} flop, and check-called 5,500 on the {10-Hearts} turn. Both players checked the {q-Diamonds} river.

"Pair," the hijack said, showing {j-Clubs}{9-Hearts}. Shin had that beat with his {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}, and took down the pot.

Level 4 : 100/300, 300 ante
David To
David To

David To bet 3,000 from the big blind on a {9-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{6-Spades} board into a pot of around 10,000, and Steven Jungmann called on the button.

To slowed down with a check on the {3-Clubs} river, and Jungmann put a stack of chips in the pot, more than enough to cover To's last 10,400. To tanked for a minute, then elected to fold.

Level 3 : 100/300, 0 ante
Craig Casino
Craig Casino

Five players invested 1,100 each to see an {8-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} flop together, which was checked through to the {j-Clubs} turn. Action checked to Steven Jungmann in the cutoff, who bet 5,500. Craig Casino jammed for 7,000 next to act, and action folded back to Jungmann, who snap-called.

Craig Casino: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Steven Jungmann: {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}

The duo gave each other a knowing nod, as both held the nut straight and a chop was guaranteed before the {6-Hearts} could fall on the river.

Edward Blazer: {q-Clubs}{q-Spades}

The {a-Clubs} river was safe for Blazer's queens, and he knocked out his opponent while scooping in a monster early pot.

HPT Ameristar East Chicago Trophy & Cash

The second of three starting flights is slated to kick off at 2 p.m. local time for the HPT Ameristar East Chicago $1,650 Main Event, and a larger field is expected to take to the felt in hopes of joining the sixteen survivors from yesterday's Day 1a flight.

Robert Keeling sits as the current chip leader, bagging up 422,000 in chips. Henry Zou (322,000), Alex Ziskin (148,000) and Kevin Maahs (83,000) were other notables able to find a bag for Day 2. Meanwhile, we expect to see Craig Casino, Greg Raymer, and Edward Ochana take another crack at navigating their way to Day 2 after falling short yesterday.

Today's Day 1b flight will play fifteen 40-minute levels, with a fifteen-minute break after every three levels, and a dinner break after Level 9. Registration remains open through the completion of the dinner break (approximately 9:30 p.m.) and a single re-entry option is available for players unfortunate enough to bust. One final flight is on tap for players, as Day 1c will kick off on Saturday at Noon local time.

Cards will be in the air at 2 p.m. local time, so be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews as we continue our coverage here at HPT Ameristar East Chicago.
