Welcome to Day 2 of HPT Ameristar East Chicago

Edward Blazer
Edward Blazer

Day 2 of the HPT Ameristar East Chicago $1,650 Main Event is set to kick off at 11 a.m. local time, as 89 players return from the original field of 520 players, with the goal being a seat at the nine-handed, nationally televised final table, which will also be live-streamed at the HPT's Twitch channel. Day 2 will feature one-hour levels through its duration.

The final 54 players will all earn a piece of the $748,800 prize pool, with a min-cash worth $3,205. Making it through to Day 3 guarantees a payday of $14,906, while the eventual champion will take home $171,411, along with a $3,500 Championship Package.

Edward Blazer is the current chip leader, sitting with 463,000 in chips. Some HPT heavy hitters lurk just behind him, as 2015 HPT Player of the Year Reginald "Shawn" Roberts (436,000) and defending champ Nick Davidson (430,000) sit just behind Blazer in the counts. Dale Hackney (424,000) and Robert Keeling (422,000) round out the top five.

Roger Campbell (347,000) brings a healthy stack back for Day 2, and other notables returning include 2018 HPT Player of the Year Aaron Johnson (305,000), former HPT Ameristar East Chicago champ Gary Herstein (289,000), Ravi Raghavan (148,000), Mike Shin (116,000), and Michael VanderWoude (70,000).

PokerNews will be live on the felt all day long, as the field reaches the money and plays down to the final nine. Be sure to stay tuned right here for updates, chip counts, and photos from Day 2 action here at Ameristar East Chicago.

Ballard's Turn to Double; Thurman Gone

Hyung Cho raised to 15,000 from middle position, then called a three-bet shove for 19,000 from Garrick Ballard in the small blind.

Garrick Ballard: {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
Hyung Cho: {5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}

Ballard ended up with Broadway on a {9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{10-Spades} board and earned a double.

Meanwhile, Keith Thurman was the first casualty of the day.

Kenniston Binks a Deuce

Level 16 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Hyung Cho raised to 12,000 from under the gun, and Matt Schurter called on the button. David Kenniston three-bet to 53,000 in the big blind, and Cho four-bet shoved for 108,000. Schurter folded, and Kenniston didn't look thrilled, but made the call.

Hyung Cho: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
David Kenniston: {2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}

Kenniston had a flip on his hands, but the {7-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{k-Clubs} flop paired Cho up. The {3-Clubs} turn gave Kenniston a flush draw, but it was the {2-Spades} on the river that ended Cho's day.
