Day 1c Started

Welcome to Day 1c of the HPT Golden Gates Main Event

Golden Gates Poker Room
Golden Gates Poker Room

The Heartland Poker Tour Golden Gates $1,650 Main Event sees its third and final flight Saturday.

Like both flights to precede it, Day 1c is scheduled for a noon start. The first two days brought a total of 230 entries, and many more are expected to be seen inside the Golden Gates Poker Parlour for action this afternoon.

As for the happenings through the first two starting flights, 38 players have already found their way into Sunday’s Day 2. Day 1a chip leader Aaron Frei (408,000) leads the way, with the top two stacks from Day 1b in Jason Su (381,000) and Bobby Sanoubane (341,000) rounding out the top three in the counts.

Day 1c will again see entrants receive starting stacks of 30,000. Levels will last 40 minutes each with 15-minute breaks after every three levels and a 60-minute dinner break after Level 9. Unlimited re-entries are available through the dinner break until the beginning of Level 10 at approximately 7:30 p.m. local time, with play concluding upon the completion of Level 15 (2,000/4,000/4,000).

Former HPT Golden Gates champions Alex Greenblatt and Austin Peck as well as others like Jeff Fielder, Jon Cohen and Jackson White are among those to have tried their hand and failed to advance through one or both of the first two starting flights. A few of them and more are expected to be seen taking their shot at this final opportunity to advance on Day 1c.

PokerNews will be on the floor all day long to bring you the tales, trials, and tribulations. Stay here for all the fun.

Geller Wins a Small One

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante
Greg Geller from HPT Golden Gates in July, 2019
Greg Geller from HPT Golden Gates in July, 2019

Greg Geller limped in from under the gun and watched action fold around to Ruth Graham, who was on the button and raised to 400. The small blind called and the big blind folded, putting action back onto Geller. He made the call and the flop came {j-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}. All three players checked.

The turn fell {10-Spades} and the small blind checked again. Geller threw out a T1,000 chip. With action on Graham, she asked the amount and was told 1,000. She then folded, as did the small blind behind her, resulting in the pot being sent Geller's way.

Abuzar Fires Three Streets

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante
Karim Abuzar
Karim Abuzar

A player limped from early position and Karim Abuzar raised to 500 from middle position. He received four calls from players behind in the hijack, on the button, and out of both blinds. The original limper called as well to take postflop action six ways.

The flop came {5-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and action checked to Abuzar, who put out a continuation-bet of 1,100. The hijack and the small blind were the only two to continue, taking action three ways to the turn {5-Hearts}. The small blind checked again and Abuzar continued, firing another 2,000. The hijack called and the small blind folded.

The river came {2-Hearts} and Abuzar bet 3,300 into his one last opponent in the hijack. Upon seeing the bet, the hijack folded, tabling {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} to show he had not hit anything.

Abuzar said he got lucky too as he showed {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}, implying surprise that his sevens remained an overpair the whole time as he took down a pot that saw six to the flop without needing a showdown to do so.

McEvoy Building Early

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Aaron McEvoy opened the action with a raise to 500 from middle position and was called by the hijack and the cutoff. The three saw a flop of {8-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} and McEvoy fired out a continuation-bet of 1,000. Both players folded and he took down the pot.

After building an early stack yesterday, McEvoy was unable to find a bag on Day 1b. He appears to be off to a quick start again on Day 1c, already nearing the 40,000-mark.
